  • ||||||||||  lysergic acid diethylamide (MM-120) / Mindmed, University Hospital Basel
    Review, Journal:  Visual hallucinations originating in the retinofugal pathway under clinical and psychedelic conditions. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 28, 2024
    Psychedelics like LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) and psilocybin are known to modulate perceptual modalities due to the activation of mostly serotonin receptors in specific cortical (e.g., visual cortex) and subcortical (e.g., thalamus) regions of the brain...This paper presents an understanding of how the retinofugal pathway communicates and modulates visual information in psychedelic and clinical conditions. Therefore, we elucidate a new theory of psychedelic modulation in the retinofugal pathway.

    Journal:  SERT and OCT mediate 5-HT1B receptor regulation of immobility behavior and uptake of 5-HT and HIS. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 28, 2024
    Intraperitoneal injections of SERT inhibitor fluoxetine (FLX) and/or OCTs inhibitor decynium (D22) were used prior to local perfusion of 5-HT1B agonist CP93129 into the ventral hippocampus to measure immobility times in the FST and TST, to measure 5-HT uptake efficiencies and HIS uptake efficiencies derived from linear regressions using the transient no-net-flux quantitative microdialysis in C57BL/6 mice...Both SERT and OCT are the target effectors mediating 5-HT1B regulation of immobility time and 5-HT uptake, OCT mediates 5-HT1B regulation of HIS uptake. Their underlying signal transductions need to be further explored.

  • ||||||||||  olanzapine / Generic mfg.
    Journal:  Olanzapine Modulate Lipid Metabolism and Adipose Tissue Accumulation via Hepatic Muscarinic M3 Receptor-Mediated Alk-Related Signaling. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 27, 2024
    However, cotreatment with Cevimeline significantly reversed the lipid metabolic disturbance and adipose tissue accumulation, as well as the upregulation of the hepatic Alk signaling caused by Olanzapine. This study demonstrates evidence that Olanzapine may cause metabolic disturbance by modulating hepatic Alk signaling via M3R, which provides novel insight for modulating the hepatic Alk signaling and potential interventions for targeting metabolic disorders.

    Review, Journal:  New Advances in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder-like Dogs. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 27, 2024
    In spite of the fact that there is no veterinary consensus about the diagnosis of ADHD-like, some validated questionnaires could be helpful, but these cannot be used as a unique diagnostic tool. The use of drugs, such as fluoxetine, in addition to an adequate environmental enrichment, relaxation protocols, and behavior modification can achieve an adequate quality of life for both the dog and caregivers.

    Journal:  Descending facilitation from rostral ventromedial medulla mu opioid receptor-expressing neurons is necessary for maintenance of sensory and affective dimensions of chronic neuropathic pain. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 27, 2024
    A single systemic administration of hM4D(Gi) agonist clozapine-N-oxide (CNO) reversibly inhibited hind paw tactile allodynia and produced conditioned place preference only in MORCre mice with PSNL...Thus, in male mice, activity of spinally projecting RVM-MOR cells is required (1) for expression and manifestation of both sensory and affective dimensions of established neuropathic pain and (2) to promote descending facilitation that overcomes apparently intact descending inhibition to maintain chronic pain. Enhanced descending facilitation likely regulates the output signal from the spinal cord to the brain to shape the pain experience and may provide a mechanism for nonopioid management of pain.

  • ||||||||||  paroxetine / Generic mfg.
    Reimbursement, US reimbursement, Journal, Medicare:  National patterns of paroxetine use among US Medicare patients from 2015-2020. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 26, 2024
    Despite the American Geriatrics Society's prohibition against paroxetine use in older adults and many effective treatment alternatives, paroxetine was still commonly used in the US in this population, especially in Kentucky and North Dakota and by neuropsychiatry and geriatric medicine. These findings provide information on the specialty types and states where education and policy reform would likely have the greatest impact on improving adherence to the paroxetine prescription recommendations.

    Journal:  Pharmaceutical Pollution Alters the Structure of Freshwater Communities and Hinders Their Recovery from a Fish Predator. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 26, 2024
    Specifically, the control mesocosms were characterized by higher zooplankton abundances and lower algal biomass, whereas mesocosms exposed to either low or high concentrations of fluoxetine had lower zooplankton abundances and higher algal biomass. Our results suggest that fluoxetine, even at very low concentrations, can alter aquatic communities and hinder their recovery from disturbances.

    Clinical, Journal:  Comparing healthcare systems between the Netherlands and Australia in management for children with acute gastroenteritis. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 26, 2024
    The lower annual incidence and per-case costs for childhood gastroenteritis in Australia cannot solely be explained by the differences in healthcare system functions. Nevertheless, Australia's robust public health system, characterized by legislation for vaccinations and quarantine, and the Netherland's well-established clinical care system, featuring fully funded continuity of care and lower ondansetron dosages, offer opportunities for enhancing healthcare in both countries.

    Journal, Cancer stem:  Stimuli-Responsive Hydrogels Potentiating Photothermal Therapy against Cancer Stem Cell-Induced Breast Cancer Metastasis. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 26, 2024
    Here, a thermoresponsive hydrogel is developed by coencapsulating aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active photothermal agent and thioridazine (THZ), demonstrating a controllable delivery system triggered by the AIE agent to augment THZ-mediated CSC ablation...Consequently, effective CSC inhibition and significant suppression of tumor recurrence and metastasis are demonstrated in mice with breast cancer. We believe that this intelligent hydrogel-based delivery system represents a promising treatment strategy for metastatic breast cancer with clinical potential.
