Furthermore, combination therapy led to a significantly prolonged survival of mice bearing prostate cancer xenografts based on an inhibition of tumor growth. The combination therapy of anti-PSMA immunotoxin plus ABT-737 represents the first tumor-specific therapeutic approach on the level of Bcl-2 proteins for the induction of apoptosis in prostate cancer.

More importantly, SPN -mediated photoactivation of protein synthesis inhibition precisely and remotely downregulates the expression levels of metastasis-related proteins in tumor tissues, eventually contributing to the complete inhibition of lung metastasis. This study thus proposes a photoactivatable protherapeutic design for metastasis-inhibited cancer therapy.

The protein biosynthesis inhibitor cycloheximide diminished the kinetics of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion and OCR in parallel, whereas it diminished the tolbutamide-induced secretion but not the accompanying OCR increase. Continuous protein synthesis is required for normal insulin secretion, regardless of the type of stimulus.

We confirm the inhibition of protein biosynthesis in vivo with an engineered A. nidulans strain producing the red fluorescent protein mCherry. Our work suggests a binding site dissimilar from that of the protein biosynthesis inhibitor sordarin, and highlights translational elongation as a valid antifungal drug target.
