  • ||||||||||  Neural Correlates of Stress-Induced Approach-Avoidance Behavior and Conflict in Remitted Depression (Griffin Hall) -  Apr 14, 2024 - Abstract #SOBP2024SOBP_883;
    Whole-brain analyses showed that approach trials were associated with higher ventral striatal and medio-dorsal prefrontal activation while avoid trials were associated with orbitofrontal (OFC) and dorsal anterior cingulate (ACC) activation. Increased conflict potentiated dorsal ACC activation while decreased conflict was associated with higher amygdala activation (all pFWE=0.05).
  • ||||||||||  Top-down modulation of autonomic arousal by the anterior cingulate cortex (WCC Halls A-C) -  Nov 3, 2023 - Abstract #Neuroscience2023NEUROSCIENCE_10862;
    Together these findings indicate that the ACC modulates autonomic arousal, possibly via projections to the PAG. We are currently evaluating how ACC VIP neurons regulate outflow of information to the PAG for top-down modulation of arousal.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  A toxin-mediated policing system in Bacillus optimizes division of labor via penalizing cheater-like nonproducers. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 25, 2023
    Finally, the policing system not only excluded ECM-nonproducing cheater-like individuals but also improved the production of other public goods such as protease and siderophore, consequently, enhancing the population stability and ecological fitness under stress conditions and in the rhizosphere. This study provides insights into our understanding of the maintenance and evolution of microbial cooperation.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Resource scarcity aggravates ingroup bias: Neural mechanisms and cross-scenario validation. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 4, 2023
    We suggest that ACC activation reflects the mentalizing process toward ingroup over outgroup members in the scarcity condition. Finally, the ACC activation level significantly predicted the influence of resource scarcity on ingroup bias in hypothetical real-life situations according to a follow-up examination.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Silencing of STE20-type kinase TAOK1 confers protection against hepatocellular lipotoxicity through metabolic rewiring. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 24, 2023
    Finally, the ACC activation level significantly predicted the influence of resource scarcity on ingroup bias in hypothetical real-life situations according to a follow-up examination. Together, we provide the first experimental evidence supporting the role of hepatic lipid droplet-decorating kinase TAOK1 in NAFLD development through mediating fatty acid partitioning between anabolic and catabolic pathways, regulating oxidative/endoplasmic reticulum stress, and modulating metabolic and pro-oncogenic signaling.
  • ||||||||||  chlorogenic acid / Jiuzhang Biotech
    Review, Journal:  Chlorogenic acid improves food allergy through the AMPK/ACC/CPT-1 pathway. (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 2, 2022
    However, the basic molecular mechanisms of its effects have not been elucidated. In this study, CGA reduced allergy in a mouse model, likely by interacting with the AMPK/ACC/CPT-1 pathway.
  • ||||||||||  Preclinical, Journal:  Lipopolysaccharide and tyloxapol accelerate the development of atherosclerosis in mice. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 20, 2022
    Therefore, we suppose that LPS and Ty aggravated the development of atherosclerosis by promoting hyperlipidemia and the disorder of lipid metabolism in mice. These findings are significant for the study of the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and the selection of animal models.
  • ||||||||||  Preclinical, Journal:  Astragaloside IV ameliorates fat metabolism in the liver of ageing mice through targeting mitochondrial activity. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 22, 2022
    AST also up-regulated the expression of phosphorylated AMP-activated protein kinase, acetyl-CoA carboxylase, acetyl-coenzyme A synthetase, carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1a/1b, enoyl coenzyme A hydratase-short chain, acyl-CoA dehydrogenase medium chain and mitochondrial 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA synthase-2 involved in fat metabolism. These results indicated that mitochondrial activity could be the target of AST to treat abnormal fat metabolism during ageing.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  A role of anterior cingulate cortex in the emergence of worker-parasite relationship. (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 29, 2021
    Transcriptionally, GABA receptor- and potassium channel-related messenger RNA expressions were reliably lower in the worker's, relative to parasite's, ACC. These findings indicate the requirement of ACC activation for the expression of exploitable, effortful behavior, which could be mediated by molecular pathways involving GABA receptor/potassium channel proteins.
  • ||||||||||  Perception and Chronic Pain: Anterior Cingulate and Orbitofrontal Cortex Activity during Musical Hallucinations (Virtual Only) -  Dec 20, 2021 - Abstract #Neuroscience2021Neuroscience_3827;
    In contrast to an absence of notable LFP changes in the OFC, activity in the ACC (particularly in gamma and alpha bands), was associated with musical hallucinations and musical listening, respectively, extending prior results that internally-generated perceptual phenomena are supported by circuits in the ACC. We discuss these findings in the context of phantom perceptual phenomena and posit a framework whereby chronic pain may be interpreted as a persistent internally-generated percept.; Grant Support: DARPA grant DARPA-BAA-14-09; NIH Brain Initiative Grant UH3 NS109556-02
  • ||||||||||  Reward Processing In Children With Disruptive Behavior Disorders And Callous-Unemotional Traits In The Abcd Study () -  Dec 18, 2021 - Abstract #AACAP2021AACAP_1165;
    The DBD+CU group demonstrated greater activation in several regions compared with those in the typically developing (eg, amygdala) and DBD-only (eg, dorsal ACC) groups. At the network level, the DBD-only group showed reduced anticipatory reward activation compared with the typically developing and DBD+CU groups, whereas youths in the DBD+CU group showed increased activation during reward receipt compared with those in the typically developing group.Conclusions These findings advance our understanding of unique neuroetiologic pathways to DBDs and callous-unemotional traits.DBD, IMAGS, R
  • ||||||||||  An Exploratory Analysis into the Role of Abnormal Peripheral Metabolism in Individuals That Consume Alcohol ([VIRTUAL]) -  Nov 28, 2021 - Abstract #ACNP2021ACNP_1346;
    We previously reported that normal triglyceride and HDL levels had a significant direct effect on neural activity in the left AI in response to the anticipation of potential losses however this was not affected by alcohol use severity. These preliminary findings highlight the potential role of both normal and abnormal metabolism in reward and motivation pathways in an alcohol drinking population and suggest the interplay of alcohol use, peripheral metabolism and reward process may be more pronounced in individuals with clinically abnormal metabolic function.

  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Participation of the Anterior Cingulate Cortex in Sodium Salicylate-induced Tinnitus. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 9, 2021
    The involvement of Snf-α1, Snf-α2, Snf-β, Snf-γ1, Snf-γ4, Snf-γ5 subunits were shown to be more pronounced and could potentially be further explored in future studies. Our results demonstrated that disordered neural activity in the ACC contributes to SS-induced tinnitus and that ACC activation can modulate AC activity.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  SeP is elevated in NAFLD and participates in NAFLD pathogenesis through AMPK/ACC pathway. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 1, 2021
    Small interfering RNA of SEPP1 inhibited TG accumulation by activating adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase/acetyl-CoA carboxylase (AMPK/ACC), and overexpression of SEPP1 aggravated lipid accumulation and inhibited AMPK/ACC phosphorylation. SeP expression is activated in NAFLD and exacerbated NAFLD through AMPK/ACC, providing insight into new diagnostic, therapeutic target in NAFLD.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  HDAC11 is a novel regulator of fatty acid oxidative metabolism in skeletal muscle. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 28, 2021
    Overall, our data reveal a unique role of HDAC11 in the maintenance of muscle fiber-type balance and the mitochondrial lipid oxidation. These findings shed light on the mechanisms governing muscle metabolism and may have implications for chronic muscle metabolic diseases management.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Economic Threat Heightens Conflict Detection: sLORETA evidence. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 8, 2021
    Economic threat thus has implications for basic neurocognitive function. Discussion centers on how effects on conflict detection could shed light on the broader emotional and social consequences of economic threat.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Explanation of emotion regulation mechanism of mindfulness using a brain function model. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 4, 2021
    The orbitofrontal cortex and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex inhibit amygdala activity (i.e., top-down emotion regulation). However, when mindfulness meditation dominates bottom-up processing via sensory stimuli from the external world, amygdala activity increases through the insula and ACC activation.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Electroencephalography (EEG) Reveals Increased Frontal Activity in Social Presence. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 3, 2021
    Neutral pictures are inherently ambiguous, and the current results indicate the presence of another person to change the way one processes, perceives, and acts on them. This is in support for theories proposing the ACC to be part of a larger signal-specification network that gauges relevant stimuli for adequate execution of control.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Reward Processing in Children With Disruptive Behavior Disorders and Callous-Unemotional Traits in the ABCD Study. (Pubmed Central) -  May 11, 2021
    At the network level, the DBD-only group showed reduced anticipatory reward activation compared with the typically developing and DBD+CU groups, whereas youths in the DBD+CU group showed increased activation during reward receipt compared with those in the typically developing group. These findings advance our understanding of unique neuroetiologic pathways to DBDs and callous-unemotional traits.
