    Various sulfonamides are protective in lung ischemia-reperfusion injury both by carbonic anhydrase inhibition and other mechanisms (Promenade Lobby) -  Jan 4, 2020 - Abstract #WSMRF2020WSMRF_429;
    To examine these for the first time in the lung, we studied effects of acetazolamide (AZ), benzolamide (BZ), and a non-CA inhibiting analog of acetazolamide (n-methyl acetazolamide-NMA) in acute lung I/R injury...Conclusions Our data demonstrate that pretreatment with AZ, BZ and NMA all protect against and mitigate the extent of damage with I/R in the lung. The protection appears to involve direct effects of CA inhibition, but in the case of NMA, other actions independent of CA inhibition that may include either anti-oxidative or hypoxia-mediated Ca++signaling changes, as has been shown in the uninjured hypoxic pulmonary vasculature.

    Besides MR-based technical artifacts, which are minimized by the voxel-based assessment of data obtained by histogram analysis, the problems derived from the diversity and the analysis of imaging data should be solved by using artificial intelligence techniques. The quantitative multiparametric MR imaging of LGG can either improve the diagnostic accuracy of their differential diagnosis or assess their prognosis.

    Journal:  Immunoglobulin Treatment in Severe Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 22, 2019
    Treatment with fluid restriction, serum albumin and intravenous furosemide was started, and repeated thoracentesis and paracenteses were performed...She was discharged, and pregnancy has continued normally to date. OHSS is an infrequent yet serious complication of assisted reproductive treatment that involves increased capillary permeability.In severe refractory cases, immunoglobulins may be a useful and safe treatment to reverse this syndrome.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  NT-proBNP: A Useful Biochemical Marker for Prognosis in Rh-Isoimmunized Pregnancies. (Pubmed Central) -  Nov 8, 2019
    The levels of NT-proBNP at various periods of gestation in hydropic, non-hydropic and control group fetuses showed positive correlation with the degree of fetal anemia. Correlation of high levels of NT-proBNP to fetal anemia proves that hydrops fetalis is probably due to progressive high cardiac output myocardial failure, increased capillary permeability and perhaps reduced coronary flow.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Lung morphology and surfactant function in cardiogenic pulmonary edema: a narrative review. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 29, 2019
    Pathology studies in patients with chronic heart failure have found increased connective tissue in alveolar capillary units and increased numbers of type II alveolar cells, and these changes represent an adaptive response in these patients. Clinicians need to consider the possibility of barrier dysfunction and disruption in patients with both acute and chronic pulmonary edema and understand that diuresis may have a limited effect on symptoms in some patients.

    Trapped lung with fibrothorax and a large pleural effusion is a very rare manifestation of sarcoidosis. Clinical outcome following decortication and initiation of immunosuppression can be excellent.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Transducin1, Phototransduction and the Development of Early Diabetic Retinopathy. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 22, 2019
    In Gnat1-deficient animals, the diabetes-induced increase in expression of inflammatory associated proteins (iNOS and ICAM-1, and phosphorylation of IĸB) in the retina, and the leukocyte mediated killing of retinal endothelial cells were inhibited, however the diabetes-mediated induction of oxidative stress was not inhibited. In conclusion, deletion of transducin1 (and the resulting inhibition of phototransduction in rod cells) inhibits the development of retinal vascular pathology in early DR.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Mechanical ventilation enhances extrapulmonary sepsis-induced lung injury: role of WISP1-αvβ5 integrin pathway in TLR4-mediated inflammation and injury. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 19, 2019
    Our results elucidated the role of MRGPRX2 in PMB and PME-induced anaphylactoid response and suggested that MRGPRX2 as a potential therapeutic target to control the anaphylactoid reactions which triggered by PMB or PME. These data show for the first time that otherwise noninjurious mechanical ventilation can exacerbate ALI due to extrapulmonary sepsis underscoring a potential interactive contribution of common events (sepsis and mechanical ventilation) in critical care, and that a WISP1-TLR4-integrin β5 pathway contributes to this phenomenon.

  • ||||||||||  Journal:  The effect of gingival aging in diabetic and non-diabetic status: an experimental study. (Pubmed Central) -  May 22, 2019
    Aging produced progressive natural changes in oxidative stress, VP and gingival E. In diabetic animals, changes in oxidative stress, VP and gingival E were observed early and were progressively more significant than for ND. According to these results, non-diabetic gingival modifications develop naturally with age, while in aging associated to diabetic disease, hyperglycemia increases progressively and early.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Body Fluids in End-Stage Renal Disease: Statics and Dynamics. (Pubmed Central) -  May 5, 2019
    On the one hand, high UFR and more pronounced declines in ScvO2, but on the other hand, flat relative BV curves are also predictive of mortality; the relation between outcome which statics and dynamics of fluid status appears to be complex. Key Message: While technological developments enable the clinician to monitor statics and dynamics of fluid status and hemodynamics during HD in an accessible way, the role of technology-based interventions needs further study.

  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Chlorogenic acid methyl ester exerts strong anti-inflammatory effects via inhibiting the COX-2/NLRP3/NF-κB pathway. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 7, 2019
    In addition, CME affected the RAW264.7 cell cycle and inhibited the protein expressions of COX-2 and NLRP3 and prevented the phosphorylation of NF-κB p65 in RAW264.7 cells treated with LPS. These observations not only validated the anti-inflammatory effects of CME, but also revealed the underlying molecular basis, which involves the down-regulation of the expression of inflammatory factors and blockade of the COX-2/NLRP3/NF-κB signaling pathway.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Review, Journal:  Renal Lymphatics: Anatomy, Physiology, and Clinical Implications. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 30, 2019
    Additionally, in an edematous, tense kidney, lymphatic vessels exiting the kidney via the capsule may become blocked at the exit point. The reciprocal negative influences between renal lymphatic dysfunction and renal interstitial edema are expected to decrease renal function due to pressure changes within the encapsulated kidney, and this mechanism may be important in several common renal conditions.
