  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Update on cancer predisposition syndromes and surveillance guidelines for childhood brain tumors. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 3, 2024
Identification of these germline syndromes in individual patients has not only enabled cascade testing of family members and early tumor surveillance but increasingly has also impacted cancer management in those patients. Therefore, the AACR Cancer Predisposition Working Group chose to highlight these advances in CNS tumor predisposition and summarize and/or generate surveillance recommendations for established and more recently emerging pediatric brain tumor predisposition syndromes.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  The Cell Cycle: a Key to Unlock EZH2-targeted Therapy Resistance. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 3, 2024
The study identified genetic alterations in EZH2 itself, along with alterations that converge on RB1-E2F-mediated cell-cycle control, and demonstrated that inhibition of cell-cycle kinases, such as Aurora Kinase B (AURKB) could bypass EZH2 inhibitor resistance to enhance treatment efficacy. See related article by Kazansky et al., p. 965 (6).
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Parenchymal obliteration by renal masses: Functional and oncologic implications. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 2, 2024
Obliteration of normal parenchyma by RCC substantially impacts preoperative renal function and patient selection. Our data suggests that increased PVR is primarily driven by aggressive tumor characteristics and independently associates with reduced RFS, although further studies will be needed to substantiate our findings.
  • ||||||||||  Journal, Surgery:  Electromyographic predictors of abducens nerve palsy after endoscopic skull base surgery. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 1, 2024
Long-term ANP outcomes may be associated with t-EMG parameters, including whether the nerve is able to be stimulated once identified and CMAP amplitude. Future prospective studies may be designed to standardize abducens nerve electrophysiological monitoring protocols to further refine operative and prognostic utility.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal, CAR T-Cell Therapy:  Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell Therapy for Solid Tumors. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 1, 2024
The application of new approaches in synthetic biology and cellular engineering toward solid tumor CAR-Ts is described. Finally, we summarize reported and ongoing clinical trials of CAR-T therapies for select disease sites such as head and neck (including thyroid cancer), lung, central nervous system (glioblastoma, neuroblastoma, glioma), sarcoma, genitourinary (prostate, renal, bladder, kidney), breast and ovarian cancer.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, and management of MRONJ: a European multicenter study. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 1, 2024
A longer mean duration of antiresorptive medications before MRONJ onset was observed in patients affected by osteoporosis, whereas a shorter mean duration was observed in all metastatic bone cancer patients, and in particular in those affected by prostate cancer with bone metastases or multiple myeloma. Surgery plays an important role for the management of MRONJ lesions.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Misdiagnosis of Primary Iliac Aneurysmo-Colonic Fistula as a Submucosal Tumor Leading to Delayed Treatment: A Case Report. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
This case is particularly notable for its rarity, misinterpretation of the initial diagnosis, complicated surgical procedures, and development of complications including ischemic myopathy. This case highlights the criticality of accurate diagnosis with a high index of suspicion, significance of consultation with a vascular surgeon for vascular abnormalities, and importance of considering ischemic time in the sequence of surgical treatments to ensure timely and appropriate management.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Hip Preservation and Capanna Reconstruction for Pediatric Proximal Femur Ewing Sarcoma: A Report of 2 Cases. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
We demonstrate the feasibility of hip joint preservation and maintenance of femoral head viability after transcervical resection of pediatric proximal femur bone sarcomas while preserving the medial circumflex femoral artery. This technique may be a preferred option over joint sacrifice and endoprosthetic replacement in young patients when tumor margins permit.
  • ||||||||||  doxorubicin hydrochloride / Generic mfg., gemcitabine / Generic mfg.
Review, Journal:  Current Treatment Options: Uterine Sarcoma. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
A notable exception is low grade endometrial stromal sarcoma, where we recommend anti-hormonal therapy in the front-line setting. Radiation therapy is reserved for selected cases where it can aid in palliating symptoms.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Sclerosing well-differentiated liposarcoma: two diagnostically challenging mimicker cases and a literature review. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
We present two cases of sclerosing WDL/ALT, both of which demonstrated high degrees of fibrosis and a paucity of fat, mimicking desmoid fibromatosis and other fibrotic soft tissue tumors. Thus, it is important for radiologists to be aware of the subtypes of liposarcoma and their unique characteristics, and to consider sclerosing WDL/ALT in cases of fibrotic soft tissue tumors.
  • ||||||||||  Biomarker, Review, Journal:  Potential Markers to Differentiate Uterine Leiomyosarcomas from Leiomyomas. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
This review searched and studied the published articles on ULM and ULMS, and summarized the potential markers for the differential diagnosis of ULMS. These markers will facilitate differential diagnosis and personalized treatment, providing timely diagnosis and potentially better prognosis for patients.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  An algorithmic approach to the management of peripheral nerve tumours. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
Complete surgical excision with clear margins is the only curative treatment and may be supplemented with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, prognosis remains poor, particularly for patients with neurofibromatosis.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Hepatic and perihepatic PEComas: A study describing a series of five rare cases. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
However, prognosis remains poor, particularly for patients with neurofibromatosis. This series highlights the fact that accurate histological diagnosis of hepatic or perihepatic PEComas is important to prevent unnecessary aggressive treatment, unlike primary hepatocellular carcinomas or hepatoid/epithelioid metastatic tumors.
  • ||||||||||  Preclinical, Journal:  CB65 and novel CB65 liposomal system suppress MG63 and Saos-2 osteosarcoma cell growth in vitro. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
The CB65 and CB65-loaded liposomal formulation releasing IC50 of CB65 reduced proliferation by RTCA and invasion by scratch assay and induced late apoptosis of MG63 and Saos-2 cells, by flow cytometry (FCM). Our results demonstrate the CB2 receptor-mediated antiproliferative and apoptotic effect of a new liposomal CB65 delivery system on osteosarcoma cells that can be used as a targeted and intelligent tool for bone tumors to ameliorate pediatric bone cancers following in vivo validation.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Ewing's sarcoma of the head and neck: A systematic review. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2024
Our results demonstrate the CB2 receptor-mediated antiproliferative and apoptotic effect of a new liposomal CB65 delivery system on osteosarcoma cells that can be used as a targeted and intelligent tool for bone tumors to ameliorate pediatric bone cancers following in vivo validation. This study provides an overall view of head and neck ES that can assist oral and maxillofacial pathologists with the diagnosis and extend the knowledge of surgeons and oncologists about this condition.
