- |||||||||| Journal: Lymphoma in Sj (Pubmed Central) - Jul 15, 2024
pSS patients with neither signs of lymphoma nor increased systemic disease activity did not benefit from screening. In contrast, patients with symptoms of lymphoma or at least moderate systemic activity can benefit from imaging of the neck and major salivary glands.

Retrospective data, Journal: Ocular involvement in highly treatment-experienced patients with HIV. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 15, 2024 The study highlighted the importance of constant monitoring even after viral suppression. Abbreviations: HIV = Human immunodeficiency virus, ART = antiretroviral therapy, CMV = cytomegalovirus, IRU = immune recovery uveitis, ELISA = enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, WB = Western Blot, VL = viral load, CD4 = CD4+ T cells.
- |||||||||| Biomarker, Journal: Elevated unphosphorylated STAT1 and IRF9 in T and B cells of primary sj (Pubmed Central) - Jul 14, 2024
unphosphorylated STAT1 and STAT2 with IRFs entertain chronic T and B cell activation. Furthermore, increased STAT1 levels candidate as biomarker of extraglandular disease, while IRF9 levels can serve as biomarker for disease activity.
- |||||||||| Journal: Submandibular Gland Pathogenesis Following SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Implications for Xerostomia. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 13, 2024
The damage to telocytes and MECs may have favored the acinar hypertrophy, leading to ductal obstruction, explaining xerostomia in COVID-19 patients. Thus, acinar cells, telocytes and MECs may be viral targets, which favor replication and cell-to-cell viral transmission in the SMG, corroborating the high viral load in saliva of infected individuals.
- |||||||||| Journal: PTBP1 protects Y RNA from cleavage leading to its apoptosis-specific degradation. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 13, 2024
Furthermore, caspase 3-resistant PTBP1 mutant knock-in mice showed elevated cytokines, dysregulation of the germinal center formation compared to the wild-type mice at LPS stimulation, and high positivity of antinuclear antibody. Those results suggest that cleavage of Y RNAs or biogenesis of ASR during apoptosis has critical biological functions and their deregulation result in immune dysregulation and the formation of autoantibody, possibly leading to the development of autoimmune diseases.
- |||||||||| Retrospective data, Journal: Particularities of Sj (Pubmed Central) - Jul 10, 2024
The SS in elderly seems not to be a distinct subset of disease. However, treatment and follow-up of elderly patients with SS must obey to closer attention considering their vulnerability and the complexity of their management.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Improvement of active salivary gland ultrasonography findings in Sj (Pubmed Central) - Jul 8, 2024
Assuming a disease-specific retinal vessel pathology, these data are indicative of a differential affliction of the gliovascular complex in the retina of RRMS and pSS patients. Our case highlights that the findings of "inflammatory" structural changes and vascularization on salivary gland ultrasonography, including the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology Clinical Trials scoring system, reflect the disease active of Sj
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Idiopathic avascular necrosis of the scaphoid (Preiser's disease): a case report and review of the literature. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 8, 2024
We describe an unusual manifestation of Preiser's disease whereby a single traumatic event, in the absence of fracture, led to idiopathic scaphoid avascular necrosis, which may have been associated with Sjogren's syndrome and fibromyalgia. These conditions may have negatively impacted microvasculature and decreased bone mineral density, inversely correlated with the production of fatty marrow, facilitating the onset of osteonecrosis in the scaphoid.
- |||||||||| Journal: Relationship between Jo-1 B Cell Epitope Profile and Clinical Features of Anti-Synthetase Syndrome. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 8, 2024
These conditions may have negatively impacted microvasculature and decreased bone mineral density, inversely correlated with the production of fatty marrow, facilitating the onset of osteonecrosis in the scaphoid. Autoantibodies targeting different amino-terminal subfragments and/or peptides of Jo-1 were associated with specific clinical features of the anti-synthetase syndrome, demonstrating the biomarker potential of B cell epitope profiling in this disorder.
- |||||||||| Journal: A genome-wide association study suggests new susceptibility loci for primary antiphospholipid syndrome. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 8, 2024
Autoantibodies targeting different amino-terminal subfragments and/or peptides of Jo-1 were associated with specific clinical features of the anti-synthetase syndrome, demonstrating the biomarker potential of B cell epitope profiling in this disorder. This study represents a comprehensive large-scale genetic analysis for PAPS and provides new insights into the genetic basis and pathophysiology of this rare disease.
- |||||||||| Journal: Clinical and laboratory characteristics of salivary gland ultrasonography-positive patients with primary Sj (Pubmed Central) - Jul 5, 2024
This study showed that the SGUS score positively correlated with LSGB grade in pSS patients and negatively correlated with patient age. Thus, SGUS and LSGB are consistent in the diagnosis of pSS to reflect the degree of salivary gland involvement, and patients who are SGUS positive have high RF and IgG levels, a variety of autoantibodies positive and a tendency toward salivary gland enlargement.
- |||||||||| Journal, Biopsy: The Value of Labial Gland Biopsies as a Diagnostic Test for Sj (Pubmed Central) - Jul 3, 2024
Due to the risk of complications associated with a LGB, alternative minimally invasive investigations should always be considered. The histological findings in isolation, particularly when a low focus score is seen, may not be predictive of a diagnosis of SS.
- |||||||||| Journal, Immunomodulating: Immunomodulatory Effects of Yu-Ping-Feng Formula on Primary Sj (Pubmed Central) - Jul 2, 2024
There was a trend of reduction on disease activity, but not statistically significant. Together, our findings suggested a novel approach to assess the immunomodulatory effects of YPF formula, which may be favorable for patients with autoimmune disorders.
- |||||||||| Journal: Increased interferon signalling in vaginal tissue of patients with primary Sj (Pubmed Central) - Jul 1, 2024
Performance of ASP without clinical suspicion of systemic autoimmune disease appears unwarranted. Upregulation of IFN signaling in vaginal tissue of women with pSS, along with its association with tissue pathology, suggests that IFNs contribute to inflammation of the vaginal wall and potentially also to clinical symptomatology (ie, vaginal dryness).
- |||||||||| Journal: Sclerouveitis as Part of Multiple Autoimmune Syndrome in a Patient with Alkaptonuria: A Case Report. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 1, 2024
Overall, the findings suggest an increased proportion of B-cells and genes related to B-cell function, as well as hypomethylation of genes involved in immune responses and immune receptor recombination, in LSG tissues of individuals with SS compared to non-SS controls. We present a novel MAS-type 2 pattern consisting of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, sclerouveitis, and Sj
- |||||||||| Biomarker, Clinical, Retrospective data, Review, Journal: The role of bilirubin as a biomarker of rheumatic diseases: a systematic review and meta-analysis. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 1, 2024
Therefore, the results of our systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that the reductions in bilirubin concentrations observed in patients with RDs reflect a state of impaired antioxidant and anti-inflammatory defence due to bilirubin consumption and highlight the promising role of this endogenous product as a biomarker of RDs. https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier CRD42023500649.
