  • ||||||||||  COVID-19 VACCINE RELATED AUTOIMMUNE RHEUMATIC DISEASES (HALL A) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_411;
    Since many of these autoimmune and rheumatic diseases are also associated with COVID-19 infection, it can be hypothesized that the immunological mechanism leading to autoimmune diseases following the COVID-19 infection may also play a role in vaccine-induced rheumatic disease. Molecular mimicry, the production of particular autoantibodies, and the role of certain vaccine adjuvants seem to be substantial contributors to autoimmune phenomena.
  • ||||||||||  SKIN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES (HALL B) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_346;
    Molecular mimicry, the production of particular autoantibodies, and the role of certain vaccine adjuvants seem to be substantial contributors to autoimmune phenomena. Other autoimmune diseases with only cutaneous manifestations may include morphea (scleroderma), discoid lupus erythematosus, Henoch-Sch
  • ||||||||||  THYROID AUTOIMMUNITY IN OTHER AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES. (HALL B) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_342;
    Data from literature strongly suggest that female SAD patients, with a high risk of TA (a normal but at the higher limit thyroid-stimulating hormone value, positive antithyroid peroxidase antibodies, a hypoechoic pattern, and small thyroid), should undergo periodic thyroid function follow-up and thyroid ultrasonography, and appropriate treatments when needed. On the whole, a careful thyroid monitoring would be opportune during the follow-up of these patients.
  • ||||||||||  THE INCIDENCE OF NEW NOT-THYROID AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS IN PATIENTS WITH GRAVES' DISEASE (Station 04) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_299;
    In this study, we show the incidence of new cases of NTAD in female GD patients (GDp).Methods We have evaluated the appearance of new NTAD in 600 female GDp without previous NTAD in comparison with 300 gender-and age-matched controls with multinodular goiter followed in our unit for ? 2 years.Results in this longitudinal study, we have shown a significantly higher incidence (p<0.05) of new cases of vitiligo, chronic autoimmune gastritis, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, celiac disease, and Sj

  • ||||||||||  AUTOIMMUNITY, COVID-19 OMICRON VARIANT, AND OLFACTORY DYSFUNCTION: A LITERATURE REVIEW (Station 02) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_187;
    The Omicron variant elicits a less robust autoimmune and inflammatory response, believed to reduce the probability of anosmia.conclusions : Although not as common as other variants, Omicron-related olfactory dysfunction should remain a focus of further research. Olfactory issues were found to affect 10
  • ||||||||||  VITAMIN D IN AUTOIMMUNITY (HALL A) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_183;
    It has thus been shown that vitamin D is a steroid hormone involved in the regulation of the immune system. Vitamin D deficiency may be involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases and may be used therapeutically to treat patients with autoimmune diseases to mitigate the autoimmune process and treat pain.
  • ||||||||||  CELL THERAPY APPROACHES FOR AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES. (HALL C) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_121;
    One important step will be the development of open-label multi-center clinical trials evaluating the long-term efficacy and safety of CAR/CAAR T cell therapy and MSC transplantation. In addition, practical feasibility issues need to be addressed, including the cost, safety, reproducibility, and worldwide availability of cell-based therapy in autoimmune diseases.
  • ||||||||||  PARANEOPLASTIC AUTOIMMUNE LAMININ-332 SYNDROME (PALS) (HALL A) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_95;
    Detailed analysis of available data highlights that patients who developed LM-332Pg after cancer was diagnosed, had a more favorable prognosis, compared to patients who developed cancer when LM-332Pg was previously present. Preliminary data would suggest that autoantibodies to Laminin-332 could serve as an important biomarker in certain patients, for correlation with possible incidence of malignancy.

    SECRETAGOGUE EFFECT OF PDE4 INHIBITOR APREMILAST ON HUMAN SALIVARY GLAND ORGANOIDS OBTAINED FROM PRIMARY SJ (Station 01) -  May 1, 2024 - Abstract #AUTO2024AUTO_55;
    All the cases were positive for Amylase; its secretion, and thus functional status of organoids, was confirmed by its high concentration in the culture medium.conclusions :from pSS epithelium, differentiated cells and vital functional organoids, which recapitulate the development of original salivary glands, can be obtained. For the first time, the direct stimulating effect of PDE4 inhibitor Apremilast on pSS human salivary organoids is reported, opening new perspectives on targeting oral dryness with drugs that combine secretagogue and immunomodulatory effects.
  • ||||||||||  Biomarker, Journal:  Discovery and Verification of Sj (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 29, 2024
    Proteins that were increased in SS-DED showed activation of the immune system and alterations in homeostasis. Several proteases and protease inhibitors were found to be significantly changing in SS-DED, as well as a consistent decrease in specific proteins known to be secreted by the lacrimal gland.

  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal, Checkpoint inhibition:  Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-induced Inflammatory Arthritis: Current Approaches to Management. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 27, 2024
    The onset of the ICI-IA can vary from after the first infusion of ICIs to a delayed presentation a year or more after ICI initiation. Ultimately, baseline patient and tumor characteristics, the types of immunotherapies used, pre-existing autoimmune diseases, and/or other irAEs, as well as patient preferences will all shape the discussions around ICI-IA management.

    Active, not recruiting --> Completed These results suggest that the combination of anti-Ro52/TRIM21 and anti-Ro60/SSA antibodies is associated with a clinical, biologic, and transcriptional profile linked to greater disease severity in SjD through the potentiation of the interferon pathway activation by anti-Ro52/TRIM21 antibodies.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Roles of TRP and PIEZO receptors in autoimmune diseases. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 25, 2024

  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Interstitial Lung Disease associated with Connective Tissue Diseases (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 24, 2024
    The decision on whether and which immunosuppressive and/or antifibrotic therapy is indicated depends on the underlying disease, disease activity, extrapulmonary manifestations, severity of organ involvement, ILD progression, comorbidities, and patient preferences. Complex treatment decisions are ideally made in multidisciplinary expert teams.

  • ||||||||||  Journal:  A Smartphone App to Support Self-Management for People Living With Sj (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 21, 2024
    Identifying techniques that target several symptoms simultaneously may prevent users from becoming overwhelmed. Including techniques that support assertiveness and communication with others about the condition, its symptoms, and users' limitations may support users in their interactions with others and improve engagement in symptom management strategies.
