  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Neurosurgical perioperative management of frail elderly patients. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 20, 2023
    Therefore, due attention must be paid to neurosurgical frailty and muscle assessment in elderly patients. Specialized interventions in the perioperative period of neurosurgery in frail elderly patients may improve their postoperative prognosis.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Association of body composition and surgical outcomes in patients with early-stage breast cancer. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 19, 2023
    Compared with those undergoing lumpectomy or mastectomy without reconstruction, patients undergoing mastectomy with reconstruction were more likely to experience postoperative complications and obesity was associated with higher risk of complication in the latter group. We did not identify a correlation between sarcopenia and rate of adverse surgical outcomes.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Retrospective data, Review, Journal:  Effectiveness of Creatine in Metabolic Performance: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 18, 2023
    When these results were added together, we found that taking Cr supplements demonstrated statistically significant benefits over PLA. In conclusion, the present MA has found evidence that Cr has positive effects on metabolic outcomes for people who consume it.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Vulnerability among rural older adults in southern Brazil: population-based study. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 18, 2023
    This study contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 (good health and well-being) and 10 (reduced Inequalities) for all. Vulnerability is common among rural community-dwelling older adults and is associated with sociodemographic and health characteristics.
  • ||||||||||  Journal, Metastases:  Can sarcopenia predict survival in locally advanced rectal cancer patients? (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 18, 2023
    The MAFLD criteria might be better for identifying high-risk fatty liver disease than the NAFLD criteria. Sarcopenia was found to be an independent risk factor for worse overall survival, but not recurrence free survival, in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer undergoing neo-adjuvant chemo-radiotherapy and surgery with curative intent.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Effect of Muscle Forces on Femur During Level Walking Using a Virtual Population of Older Women. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 17, 2023
    The generation of a virtual population is a feasible approach to augment anatomical variations based on a small population that could mimic variations seen in a larger cohort. This is a valuable alternative to overcome the limitation or the need to collect dataset from a large population, which is both time and resource consuming.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Editorial: (Osteo)Sarcopenia & sarcopenic obesity. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 15, 2023
    The perioperative airway management program implemented at our center was easy to perform and can effectively improve short-term postoperative outcomes in colorectal cancer patients with sarcopenia. No abstract available
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Editorial: Transient ischemic attack: standard-of-care model. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 15, 2023
    Lifestyle modifications, including weight management and physical activity, remain central to the treatment of sarcopenic obesity, while additional research is needed to explore potential pharmacological options. No abstract available
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Frailty after COVID-19: The wave after? (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 15, 2023
    Regarding the underlying mechanisms, a multicausal genesis can be assumed, involving both direct viral effects and indirect effects, particularly from the imposed lockdowns with devastating consequences for the elderly: decreased physical activity, altered diet, sarcopenia, fatigue, social isolation, neurological problems, inflammation, and cardiovascular morbidity are among the possible mediators. Since the COVID-19 pandemic is leading to an increase in frailty in the elderly, there is an urgent need to raise awareness of this still little-known problem of potentially great public health importance and to find appropriate prevention and treatment measures.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Evaluation and management of body composition changes in cancer patients. (Pubmed Central) -  Sep 15, 2023
    As more evidence highlighting the importance of body composition has emerged, it is imperative to apply a more precise evaluation of nutritional status and a more targeted approach to provide nutritional support for cancer patients. In this review, we will discuss the modalities for evaluating body composition and how to manage body composition changes in cancer patients.
  • ||||||||||  Enrollment change, Trial completion date, Trial primary completion date:  The Shape Regulation Mechanism of Yam Pill on Patients With Sarcopenia Based on Intestine-muscle-brain Axis (clinicaltrials.gov) -  Sep 14, 2023
    P=N/A,  N=136, Not yet recruiting,
    Allopurinol use in older adults with gout is associated with a reduced risk of persistent physical disability but not associated with risk of frailty. N=94 --> 136 | Trial completion date: Apr 2024 --> Apr 2025 | Trial primary completion date: Apr 2024 --> Sep 2023
