  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Sarcopenia in Patients With Rectal Adenocarcinoma: An Opportunity for Preoperative Rehabilitation. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 8, 2024
    Risk factors for the development of pleural effusion included higher MELD score (>20), re-transplantation, alcoholic liver disease, and poor nutrition status, including poor muscle mass. The presence of sarcopenia at diagnosis and its association with post-NACRT sarcopenia suggests an opportunity for a high-impact intervention.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Effect of Sarcopenia on Mortality and Morbidity in Patients With Fournier's Gangrene. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 8, 2024
    The presence of sarcopenia at diagnosis and its association with post-NACRT sarcopenia suggests an opportunity for a high-impact intervention. Based on this large retrospective study, sarcopenia is a strong and independent predictor of postoperative mortality after Fournier's treatment for gangrene.
  • ||||||||||  Trial primary completion date:  Feasibility of a Novel Resistance Exercise in Individuals With Osteoporosis (clinicaltrials.gov) -  Jan 8, 2024
    P=N/A,  N=44, Not yet recruiting,
    Further well-designed prospective cohort studies are needed to assess our results. Trial primary completion date: Dec 2024 --> Jun 2025
  • ||||||||||  Effect of adipose-related parameters on survival in patients with cirrhosis: a meta-analysis () -  Jan 6, 2024 - Abstract #APASL2024APASL_2422;
    Our study showed potential application of advanced technology in clinical research. Different adipose parameters exhibited varying prognostic value: decreased SATI or MR, increased VSR, and concurrent myosteatosis or SO were independently associated with a higher risk of mortality in patients with cirrhosis.
  • ||||||||||  Analysis of the incidence of sarcopenia among cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension (New Hall) -  Jan 6, 2024 - Abstract #APASL2024APASL_2072;
    In clinical practice, pre?sarcopenia was shown to be a significant prognostic factor in patients treated with first-line lenvatinib for unresectable HCC. In cirrhotic patients complicated with portal hypertension, the incidence of sarcopenia was thought to be relatively high in elderly woman without obesity, suggesting that muscle mass evaluation might be desirable.
  • ||||||||||  Meld-Sarcopenia Score Predicts Short-Term Readmission of Patients with Hepatic Encephalopathy (Room 13, B-2) -  Jan 6, 2024 - Abstract #APASL2024APASL_556;
    A nutritional status-based prediction model is first established for postoperative recurrence of HCC, which is superior to other models and contributes to prognosis prediction. The MELD-sarcopenia score and SMD were identified as predictive factors for short-term readmission in patients diagnosed as HE.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Model of disease severity in alcoholic hepatitis and novel prognostic insights. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 5, 2024
    Amongst consecrated prognostic models, MDF and Lille scores were representative for our study, while ABIC, GAHS and MELD-Na did not attain statistical significance. Our score is unique by the addition of CRP and this could prove to be a useful tool in AH severity stratification.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Sarcopenia and diabetes-induced dementia risk. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 5, 2024
    Notably, the use of statins was linked to a reduced risk of dementia. This research underscores the need to identify and address modifiable risk factors for dementia in elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, offering valuable insights for targeted interventions and healthcare policies.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Editorial: Nutrition, sarcopenia, and sarcopenic obesity. (Pubmed Central) -  Jan 3, 2024
    Future studies with a standardized sarcopenia diagnostic criterion were needed to investigate sarcopenia's prevalence and prognostic effects in hematologic malignancies. No abstract available
