- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Advances in the research on myokine-driven regulation of bone metabolism. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 16, 2024
Myokines are widely involved in bone metabolism, influencing bone resorption and formation by interacting with factors related to bone cell secretion or influencing bone metabolic pathways. Here, we review the research progress on the myokine regulation of bone metabolism, discuss the mechanism of myokine regulation of bone metabolism, explore the pathophysiological relationship between sarcopenia and osteoporosis, and provide future perspectives on myokine research, with the aim of identify potential specific diagnostic markers and therapeutic entry points.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Assessing nutrition status, sarcopenia, and frailty in adult transplant recipients. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
Finally, for frailty assessment, the Short Physical Performance Battery is useful for evaluating physical frailty, and for a multidimensional evaluation, the Fried frailty phenotype can be used. Specifically for liver transplant candidates, the use of Liver Frailty Index is recommended.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty assessment in pediatric transplantation. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
Recently, the addition of a variety of validated nutrition and functional assessment techniques has assisted with appropriate assessment of these conditions. The objective of this narrative review is to provide an overview of the current literature for pediatric assessment of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty in the setting of solid organ transplantation and provide practicing nutrition clinicians a solid foundation for learning how to effectively assess these conditions with the current literature available.
- |||||||||| Journal: Risk factors for sarcopenia in patients with head and neck cancer. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
Findings from this study may help facilitate more effective primary prevention of IHD. Male sex, advanced age, and excess body fat were identified as risk factors for sarcopenia in patients with HNC, whereas a higher BMI and TBW/FFM acted as protective factors against sarcopenia in these patients.
- |||||||||| Journal: Calf circumference predicts sarcopenia in maintenance hemodialysis. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
Low muscle mass and potentially low muscle strength in HD patients can be accurately identified through the use of CC measurements. Specifically, a CC measurement below 31?cm has found to be a useful indicator to identify individuals on maintenance HD.
- |||||||||| Journal: Design and Verification of Integrated Circuitry for Real-Time Frailty Monitoring. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
To address this, the designed analyzer introduces variables like Smoothness and Percussion to provide more information and objectify measurements in the assessment of stand-up/sit-down actions. Both the analyzer and the proposed variables offer additional information that can objectify assessments depending on the clinical eye of the physicians.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Relationship of Low Vitamin B6 Status with Sarcopenia, Frailty, and Mortality: A Narrative Review. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
Furthermore, the modulation of PLP-dependent enzymes due to B6 deficiency is associated with impaired metabolic processes, affecting energy utilization, imidazole peptide production, and hydrogen sulfide production, as well as the kynurenine pathway, all of which play vital roles in skeletal muscle health and pathophysiology. This narrative review provides an up-to-date assessment of our current understanding of the potential role of nutritional B6 status in combating sarcopenia, frailty, and mortality.
- |||||||||| Preclinical, Journal: Ashwagandha Ethanol Extract Attenuates Sarcopenia-Related Muscle Atrophy in Aged Mice. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
Mechanistically, WSE balanced muscle protein synthesis/degradation, promoted fiber differentiation, and enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis through the IGF-1/Akt/mTOR pathway. This study provides compelling evidence for the anti-sarcopenic effects of WSE, positioning it as a promising candidate for preventing sarcopenia pending further clinical validation.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: Mediterranean Diet, Vitamin D, and Hypercaloric, Hyperproteic Oral Supplements for Treating Sarcopenia in Patients with Heart Failure-A Randomized Clinical Trial. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
This study provides compelling evidence for the anti-sarcopenic effects of WSE, positioning it as a promising candidate for preventing sarcopenia pending further clinical validation. Nutritional support with hypercaloric, hyperproteic OS, Mediterranean diet, and vitamin D supplementation were associated with decreased NT-proBNP and improvements in LVEF, functionality, and quality of life in patients with HF, despite a significant decrease in hospital admissions.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Sarcopenia and Diabetes: A Detrimental Liaison of Advancing Age. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
The review comprehensively addresses key elements for the clinical definition and diagnostic criteria of sarcopenia, the pathophysiological correlation be-tween T2D, sarcopenia, and related outcomes, a critical review of the role of antihyperglycemic treatment on skeletal muscle health, and perspectives on the role of specific treatment targeting myokine signaling pathways involved in glucose control and the regulation of skeletal muscle metabolism and trophism. Prompt diagnosis and adequate management, including lifestyle inter-vention, health diet programs, micronutrient supplementation, physical exercise, and pharmaco-logical treatment, are needed to prevent or delay skeletal muscle deterioration in T2D.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Nutritional Assessments by Bioimpedance Technique in Dialysis Patients. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
Importantly, reduction in LTM has been associated with increased risk of frailty, hospitalization, and mortality in dialysis patients, whereas the prognostic value of ATM remains debatable. Further studies are needed to determine whether modifications of bioimpedance-derived body composition parameters through nutrition intervention can result in clinical benefits.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Therapeutic applications of ginseng for skeletal muscle-related disorder management. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 15, 2024
Ginsenoside compounds are also used for obesity management, and their anti-obesity effects are attributed to peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPAR?) inhibition, AMPK activation, glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) translocation, and increased phosphorylations of insulin resistance (IR), insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1), and Akt. This review was undertaken to provide an overview of the use of ginseng-related compounds for the management of SM-related disorders.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Frailty and Erectile Dysfunction: An Understudied Correlation. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 12, 2024
The present investigation has revealed a significant association of frailty, exacerbated by advancing age, with the occurrence of ED. Our findings lead to the conclusion that the condition of frailty becomes more pronounced as individuals advance in age.
- |||||||||| Biomarker, Journal: Identifying Acss1, Mtfp1 and Oxct1 as key regulators and promising biomarkers of sarcopenia in various models. (Pubmed Central) - Jan 12, 2024
What's more, ROC analysis based on human aging-related datasets indicated Acss1, Mtfp1, Oxct1 had outstanding diagnostic capabilities for sarcopenia. In general, we identified three hub genes (Acss1, Mtfp1 and Oxct1) that are strongly associated with mitochondrial dysfunction in sarcopenia and may provide novel and reliable indicators for screening, diagnosis, and prognosis, as well as potential therapeutic targets for patients with sarcopenia.
