  • ||||||||||  IL-6 IS A CRUCIAL MEDIATOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PANCREATIC CANCER-INDUCED SARCOPENIA (101 - Walter E. Washington Convention Center) -  Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_6514;
    Interestingly, suppression of skeletal muscle differentiation was stronger in experiments employing the more malignant KPC cells than KFC cells. The suppression of IL-6 expression in pancreatic cancer cells alleviated the inhibition of skeletal muscle differentiation.
  • ||||||||||  4340: Nutrition, Frailty and Sarcopenia for the Cirrhotic Patient $$$ (101 - Walter E. Washington Convention Center) -  Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_5534;
    Description: Please note that this session requires an additional registration fee to attend. Learning Objectives: Develop an understanding of the complexities surrounding nutrition, frailty, and sarcopenia in cirrhotic patients., Explore various strategies and interventions aimed at addressing nutrition, frailty, and sarcopenia in cirrhotic patients., Engage in collaborative discussions aimed at promoting continuous learning and exploration of innovative approaches to managing nutrition-related challenges and frailty in cirrhotic patients.
  • ||||||||||  DIAGNOSING SARCOPENIA WITH AI-AIDED ULTRASOUND (DINOSAUR)  (Hall A) -  Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_3770;
    AI-aided ultrasound can also be used to track patients' progress and muscle quality through various stages of treatment such as the pre- peri- and post-operative period for surgical patients. Further analysis incorporating other ultrasound parameters of muscle quality may provide the basis for a more robust diagnostic tool when the study is completed.

    EZH2 INHIBITION PRESERVES GASTRIC PACEMAKER CELL AND GASTRIC MOTOR FUNCTION DURING AGING (Hall A) -  Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_2959;
    Similarly elevated EZH and H3K 7me3 levels were observed in stomachs of naturally aged mice ( - 4 months old) and klotho mice. EPZ6438 treatment prevented the increase in H3K 7me3 and the reduction in the expression of the KIT ligand stem cell factor (SCF) by WB and restored gastric ICC decline by IHC.
  • ||||||||||  2335: Malnutrition Dilemmas: Beyond the Basics (151B - Walter E. Washington Convention Center) -  Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_1935;
    Topics will include (1) understanding the physiologic impact of malnutrition on gut health, immunity, and microbiome; (2) approaching challenging cases where the etiology of malnutrition is unclear and/or malnutrition is resistant to standard nutritional therapies; (3) refeeding syndrome; and (4) the paradox of sarcopenic obesity. Learning Objectives: Understand the impact of malnutrition on gut integrity, immunity, and microbiome, Learn how to approach challenging cases of malnutrition, including those without a clear etiology, those that are resistant to standard nutritional therapies, and those at risk for refeeding syndrome, Recognize the importance of assessing and diagnosing malnutrition even among obese patients
  • ||||||||||  IMPACT OF SARCOPENIA ON CLINICAL OUTCOMES IN PEPTIC ULCER BLEEDING: A RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS (ePosters - DDW Online Platform) -  Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_1471;
    There was also a significant increase in mortality among those with high ABC scores and who receive inotropic agents. Therefore for patients with PUB accompanied by sarcopenia shock or exhibiting a high ABC score close monitoring and the implementation of aggressive treatment strategies become crucial in improving patient prognosis.
  • ||||||||||  PREVALENCE OF SARCOPENIA IN PATIENTS WITH ADVANCED INTESTINAL NEUROENDOCRINE TUMORS (Hall A) -  Mar 14, 2024 - Abstract #DDW2024DDW_808;
    ConclusionThese preliminary results show that sarcopenia is often present in patients with intestinal NENs at time of initial diagnosis. This should be carefully taken into account considering the potential additional risk of malnutrition in these patients when starting somatostatin analogs due to the onset or worsening of pre-existing EPI.
  • ||||||||||  Journal, Machine learning:  sEMG-based Sarcopenia risk classification using empirical mode decomposition and machine learning algorithms. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 12, 2024
    The proposed method shows a high accuracy, with accuracy rates of 0.88 for normal walking, 0.89 for fast walking, 0.81 for a standard squat, and 0.80 for a wide squat, providing reliable identification of sarcopenia risk during physical activities. Beyond early sarcopenia risk detection, this sEMG-EMD-ML system offers practical values for assessing muscle function, muscle health monitoring, and managing muscle quality for an improved daily life and well-being.
  • ||||||||||  Radiomic and Nutritional Factors Influencing Survival in Fournier's Gangrene (221B) -  Mar 12, 2024 - Abstract #AUA2024AUA_1186;
    Although the study design was retrospective and the groups were unequal, nutritional factors like perioperative albumin rates, PMA, and muscle solidity were associated with higher mortality. Additional evaluation of these measurable features may assist in FG management and nutritional support interventions.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Response to Deantoni et al. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 12, 2024
    With sarcopenia prevalent among MIBC patients, our findings highlight the need to use muscle mass-independent measures of renal function to determine cisplatin-eligibility in "borderline" patients. No abstract available
