  • ||||||||||  Journal:  The Mood-Muscle Meta Bridge (Brain Muscle Axis). (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 13, 2024
In this brief communication we describe the bidirectional association between muscle function and mood (psychological health), explore the various pathways that link these aspects of health, and underscore their clinical implications. This paper emphasizes the importance of maintaining good mental health through exercise and vice a versa.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Ambient air pollution exposure and the risk of probable sarcopenia: A prospective cohort study. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 12, 2024
Air pollution exposure elevated the risk of developing sarcopenia and related manifestations in a dose-dependent manner, while physical activity maintained protective under this circumstance. Efforts should be made to control air pollution and emphasize the importance of physical activity for skeletal muscle health under this circumstance.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Increased serum adipokines are associated with sarcopenia in non-obese women with rheumatoid arthritis. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 11, 2024
Taken together, our study reveals that secondary sarcopenia of RA females may be an imbalance of RA-related, but not obesity-related, increase in adipokine production; additionally, the reduced leptin/adiponectin ratio could be a better indicator in monitoring sarcopenia in non-obese RA females. Moreover, adipokine imbalance may promote muscle atrophy through inducing autophagy.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Lean body mass in living kidney donors impacts postoperative renal function. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 10, 2024
Our study showed that pain, especially pain persistence, was closely correlated to the increased risk of progression to sarcopenia in Chinese middle-aged and older adults. When selecting donors, this study highlights that patients with low skeletal mass are unlikely to underperform in terms of recovery of their renal function postoperatively at one year when compared to patients with normal muscle mass and should not be a barrier to kidney donation.

Review, Journal:  From liver to hormones: The endocrine consequences of cirrhosis. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 9, 2024
Established standards are followed for managing hypoglycemia, and hormone replacement therapy is often necessary for other endocrine dysfunctions. Liver transplantation can address some of these problems.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Myosteatosis is associated with coronary artery calcification in patients with type 2 diabetes. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 9, 2024
Nonetheless, given the shortcomings affecting primary research in terms of the limited number of studies and the high risk of bias, further research is warranted. Myosteatosis is a novel risk factor for atherosclerosis in patients with T2DM, especially in the population with younger ages and fewer traditional risk factors.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Correlation between Instrumental Activities of Daily Living and muscle mass in older adults: impact of comorbidities. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 8, 2024
Among different parameters studies, a statistical correlation was found in a stratified regression analysis between the Lawton index score and muscle mass in patients who were overweight (p value:0.001 ;beta coefficient: 0.08), obese (p value: 0.001 ; beta coefficient: 0.05), had diabetes (p value: 0.012 ;beta coefficient: 0.03), and had COPD (p value:0.001 ;beta coefficient:0.03). The correlation between muscle mass and instrumental activities of daily living should be evaluated individually according to the needs of each participant and according to their comorbidities, promoting patient-centered geriatric medicine.
  • ||||||||||  Journal, Surgery:  Sarcopenia and its effects on outcome of lumbar spine surgeries. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 8, 2024
The management can be revolutionised by predicting those who are at high risk of developing post-operative complications and poor surgical outcomes by mere diagnosis of sarcopenia. This knowledge will benefit both the patients and the surgeons.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Control of muscle satellite cell function by specific exercise-induced cytokines and their applications in muscle maintenance. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 8, 2024
Emerging evidence reveals that exercise regulates muscle function largely via the exercise-induced cytokines that govern SC potential, but this phenomenon is complicated and confusing. This review provides a comprehensive integrative overview of the identified exercise-induced cytokines and the roles of these cytokines in SC function, providing a more complete picture regarding the mechanism of SC homeostasis and rejuvenation therapies for skeletal muscle.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Nutritional interventions during treatment for ovarian cancer: A narrative review and recommendations for future research. (Pubmed Central) -  Apr 8, 2024
A key finding from this review is that, despite the high prevalence of malnutrition and muscle loss in women with ovarian cancer and the critical importance of addressing these modifiable prognostic factors, nutrition intervention studies are limited. Prospective studies with samples large enough to provide adequate power to evaluate intervention effectiveness are urgently required to inform optimal management.
