- |||||||||| DIAGNOSING SARCOPENIA WITH AI-AIDED ULTRASOUND (DINOSAUR) (Hall A, Poster Hall) - Apr 21, 2024 - Abstract #SSAT2024SSAT_513;
AI-aided ultrasound can also be used to track patients' progress and muscle quality through various stages of treatment, such as the pre-, peri-, and post-operative period for surgical patients. Further analysis incorporating other ultrasound parameters of muscle quality may provide the basis for a more robust diagnostic tool when the study is completed.
- |||||||||| IMPLEMENTATION OF A MULTIMODAL PREHABILITATION PROGRAMME, SURGICAL PREHABILITATION FOR COMPREHENSIVE ENHANCED RECOVERY (SUPREME), IN COLORECTAL SURGERY (Hall A, Poster Hall) - Apr 21, 2024 - Abstract #SSAT2024SSAT_508;
These informed implementation strategies including: 1) Improving patient compliance through better understanding of repeated measures and its influence on outcomes; 2) Developing stakeholder inter-relationships through academic partnerships and collaborative research to pool resources; 3) Providing coordinators with training to optimise facilitation and improve patient buy-in; 4) Regular audit and reporting patient outcomes to improve clinician onboarding.Conclusion Multimodal prehabilitation is important to optimise patients before major colorectal surgery for improved patient outcomes. Implementation of a complex multidisciplinary programme can be difficult, however, a systematic and methodical approach, guided by implementation science, can help identify key barriers and facilitators which can inform targeted strategies for successful implementation.

Weaker older adults also appeared to walk and recover from treadmill-induced slip perturbations with more caution. This study highlights the role of plantarflexor strength and Achilles tendon stiffness in regulating lateral gait stability in older adults, which may be targets for training protocols seeking to minimize fall risk and injury severity.

Although pet owners may have different perceptions about the feeding and management practice of their dogs and cats, the health and well-being of the companion animals critically depend on safe, balanced, and nutritive foods. The new knowledge covered in this volume of Adv Exp Med Biol is essential to guide the formulation of pet foods to improve the growth, development, brain function, reproduction, lactation, and health of the companion animals.

It is well-known that sarcopenia and frailty represent clinical manifestations of ageing and overlap in terms of the impairment in physical function observed in both conditions. Our results demonstrate that sarcopenia and frailty do not necessarily co-occur within the older acutely admitted patient, highlighting the need for separate assessments of frailty and sarcopenia to ensure the accurate characterization of the health status of older patients.
