  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Muscle Strength Identification Based on Isokinetic Testing and Spine Musculoskeletal Modeling. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 23, 2024
    Considering the synergistic activations of antagonist muscles improved the correlation between the simulated and measured spinal moments, and the introduction of IAP slightly increased the identified spinal extensor strength. The established method is beneficial for understanding spinal loading distributions for athletes and patients with sarcopenia.

    Thus, early and routine assessment of sarcopenia is vital for patients undergoing geriatric rehabilitation. In settings where assessment of sarcopenia is not feasible, evaluation of IADLs and hemoglobin may be used to identify high-risk patients that can benefit from supportive care strategies aiming to improve muscle mass and function.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  TP53INP2-dependent activation of muscle autophagy ameliorates sarcopenia and promotes healthy aging. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 21, 2024
    In humans, high levels of TP53INP2 in muscle are associated with increased muscle strength and healthy aging. Our findings highlight the relevance of an active muscle autophagy in the maintenance of muscle mass and prevention of sarcopenia.Abbreviation: ATG7: autophagy related 7; BMI: body mass index; EIF4EBP1: eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein 1; MAP1LC3/LC3: microtubule associated protein 1 light chain 3; ROS: reactive oxygen species; TP53INP2: tumor protein p53 inducible nuclear protein 2; WT: wild type.
  • ||||||||||  Retrospective data, Journal:  Low skeletal muscle mass is associated with inferior preoperative and postoperative shoulder function in elderly rotator cuff tear patients. (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 21, 2024
    Our findings highlight the relevance of an active muscle autophagy in the maintenance of muscle mass and prevention of sarcopenia.Abbreviation: ATG7: autophagy related 7; BMI: body mass index; EIF4EBP1: eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein 1; MAP1LC3/LC3: microtubule associated protein 1 light chain 3; ROS: reactive oxygen species; TP53INP2: tumor protein p53 inducible nuclear protein 2; WT: wild type. The results of present study revealed that the low skeletal muscle mass is associated with inferior ROM of the shoulder and per- and post-operative shoulder function, especially for elderly female patients.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Body composition and aging: cross-sectional results from the INSPIRE study in people 20 to 93 (Pubmed Central) -  Jul 19, 2024
    For females, we observed an increase with age up to age 75 (CI 95% 62-86), followed by a decreasing trend. In this study, we described the relationship between body composition and age as a function of sex, establishing a foundation for further studies on predictive biomarkers of age-related body composition alteration.

    P=N/A,  N=69, Recruiting,
    In elderly patients with cardiovascular disease, the SARC-F questionnaire could serve as a simple and cost-effective method for detecting mortality and the risk of re-hospitalization. Trial completion date: Jul 2024 --> Feb 2026 | Trial primary completion date: Jul 2024 --> Jul 2025

    Trial completion date: Jul 2024 --> Feb 2026 | Trial primary completion date: Jul 2024 --> Jul 2025 Trial completion date: Jun 2024 --> Dec 2024 | Trial primary completion date: Jun 2024 --> Dec 2024
  • ||||||||||  SARCOPENIA IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC PANCREATITIS: SARCOPAN STUDY PRELIMINARY RESULTS (Poster Stage 4) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #UEGW2024UEGW_3121;
    BMI does not represent a valid tool for assessing and monitoring the nutritional state. Muscle ultrasound has shown good diagnostic accuracy in diagnosis of sarcopenia compared with the radiological gold standard, when specific muscle groups are considered.
  • ||||||||||  PREVALENCE AND CLINICAL IMPACT OF SARCOPENIA, PANCREATIC EXOCRINE INSUFFICIENCY AND OSTEOPATHY IN CHRONIC PANCREATITIS (Poster Stage 4) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #UEGW2024UEGW_2618;
    Smoking, zinc deficiency, PEI, and male gender are defined as risk factors for sarcopenia. The prevalence of osteopathy increases in patients with sarcopenia and is associated with decreased quality of life.PVMI was used for the first time to evaluate sarcopenia in CrP patients.In studies evaluating sarcopenia using cross-sectional imaging methods, zinc deficiency was identified as a risk factor for sarcopenia for the first time in the literature.

    PREVALENCE AND IMPACT OF SARCOPENIA IN PATIENTS WITH INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASES: A PROSPECTIVECOHORT STUDY (Science Lounge) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #UEGW2024UEGW_1359;
    The biologicsadministered were infliximab (61%),vedolizumab (25%), or ustekinumab (14%). In a prospective study of Day Hospital IBD patients, sarcopenia was identified by impedancemetry in11% and myopenia in 20% of cases, and associated with an increase in morbidity
  • ||||||||||  SARCOPENIA RELATED FUNCTIONAL STRAINS AND EXPLORE THEIR MECHANISMS BASED ON GERM-FREE ANIMALS (Science Lounge) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #UEGW2024UEGW_1352;
    In a prospective study of Day Hospital IBD patients, sarcopenia was identified by impedancemetry in11% and myopenia in 20% of cases, and associated with an increase in morbidity These outcomes not only validate the intestinal microbiota-sarcopenia relationship but also introduce novel insights and strategies for sarcopenia management.
  • ||||||||||  PREVENTION OF POSTOPERATIVE COMPLICATIONS IN PATIENTS WITH PANCREATIC CANCER FOLLOWING PANCREATODUODENECTOMY (Science Lounge) -  Jul 18, 2024 - Abstract #UEGW2024UEGW_720;
    These outcomes not only validate the intestinal microbiota-sarcopenia relationship but also introduce novel insights and strategies for sarcopenia management. The surgical tactics developed to prevent postoperative pancreatic fistula after pancreatoduodenectomy were found to significantly reduce its occurrence from 27.9% to 11.4%, postoperative complications from 41.0% to 30.1%, and mortality from 2.2% to 1.3% (c2= 0.49, p = 0.5).
