  • ||||||||||  Journal, IO Biomarker:  Sestrins are differentially expressed with age in the skeletal muscle of men: A cross-sectional analysis. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 5, 2019
Although nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) was upregulated in older men, the protein and mRNA expressions of its downstream antioxidants were either increased, decreased or unaltered. No clear relationship was observed between Sestrins and their downstream targets, yet it can be concluded that Sestrins proteins are clearly downregulated with aging.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Malnutrition in the elderly and its effects on bone health - A review. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 5, 2019
It includes the clinical consequences and economic impact of malnutrition in the elderly and in particular the osteoporotic population. It encompasses the significance of dietary protein and its effects on bone health.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Glycerol-induced injury as a new model of muscle regeneration. (Pubmed Central) -  Jun 4, 2019
It was reported that degenerative changes following glycerol-induced injury resemble those seen in DMD suggesting a similarity in their mechanism. The objective of the current review is to provide an overview of the current knowledge of using glycerol as a new model to induce muscle injury and regeneration.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  The Role of Ultrasound as a Diagnostic Tool for Sarcopenia. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2019
Whilst simple, effective, non-intrusive management of this condition exists, no routine diagnosis takes place either in the UK or in many other countries, partly due to an absence of pragmatic clinical diagnostic tools to support the early identification of the syndrome. This position paper aims to provide a short overview proposing the potential case for developing ultrasound as a new and alternative diagnostic tool for identifying sarcopenia.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Single Physical Performance Measures Cannot Identify Geriatric Outpatients with Sarcopenia. (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2019
This position paper aims to provide a short overview proposing the potential case for developing ultrasound as a new and alternative diagnostic tool for identifying sarcopenia. Single physical performance measures could not identify older individuals with sarcopenia, according to five different definitions of sarcopenia.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Sarcopenia: ultrasound today, smartphones tomorrow? (Pubmed Central) -  May 31, 2019
Single physical performance measures could not identify older individuals with sarcopenia, according to five different definitions of sarcopenia. No abstract available
  • ||||||||||  Biomarker, Journal:  Designing Drug Trials for Frailty: ICFSR Task Force 2018. (Pubmed Central) -  May 30, 2019
They concluded that at the present time, there may be a more productive regulatory pathway for adjuvant treatments or trials targeting specific functional outcomes such as gait speed. They also expressed optimism that several studies currently underway may provide the insight needed to advance drug development for frailty.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Stages of sarcopenia and the incidence of falls in older women: A prospective study. (Pubmed Central) -  May 30, 2019
It is concluded that severe sarcopenia is independently associated with higher incidence of falls in older women. These results provide support for the concept that sarcopenia staging has clinical implications and might be an useful supplement to other routine falls risk assessment tools.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Relationship between characteristics of skeletal muscle and oral function in community-dwelling older women. (Pubmed Central) -  May 30, 2019
In this study, participants with sarcopenia and dynapenia showed low oral function, and similar trends were indicated for oral function and skeletal muscle according to progression of sarcopenia staging. Future research should clarify the characteristics of swallowing-related muscles, including muscle mass, strength, and performance at each sarcopenia stage.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Routine Yoga Practice Impacts Whole Body Protein Utilization in Healthy Women. (Pubmed Central) -  May 30, 2019
Routine yoga practice influenced WBPU in healthy older women. Study findings are novel and provide a basis for future investigations evaluating long-term benefits of yoga as an alternative mode of exercise for maintaining muscle mass in support of active aging.
  • ||||||||||  Coverex/Covercard (perindopril) / Egis
Biomarker, Clinical, Journal:  Leucine and ACE inhibitors as therapies for sarcopenia (LACE trial): study protocol for a randomised controlled trial. (Pubmed Central) -  May 30, 2019
It is suggested that customized support is important to successfully implement exercise-protein interventions amongst older adults, especially regarding participants' habits, product preferences and social environment. The results will provide the first robust test of the overall clinical and cost-effectiveness of these novel therapies for older patients with sarcopenia.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Dry weight targeting: The art and science of conventional hemodialysis. (Pubmed Central) -  May 29, 2019
Understanding of these body composition changes by aging and sarcopenia can aid clinical decision making in the dry weight assessments in dialysis patients. Advising patients with consistently high interdialytic weight gain to practice salt restriction and providing appropriate nutritional support for malnourished patients with downward trajectory in their dry weight would be of great help to achieve optimal fluid volume status.
