- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: The malnourished surgery patient: a silent epidemic in perioperative outcomes? (Pubmed Central) - Aug 30, 2019
The recent publication of new surgical nutrition guidelines, the PONS score, and use of LBM assessments will allow better identification and earlier intervention on perioperative malnutrition. It is essential that in the future no patient undergoes elective surgery without nutrition screening and nutrition intervention when malnutrition risk is identified.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Musculoskeletal health of Indigenous Australians. (Pubmed Central) - Aug 30, 2019
Evaluating the effects, implementation, and costs of this combined intervention provides valuable insight into the feasibility of this intervention for community-dwelling older adults and into the intervention's ability to improve or to maintain physical functioning and quality of life. Data on more detailed musculoskeletal health outcomes are required in Indigenous Australians to better understand fracture risk and to formulate evidence-based strategies for fracture prevention and to minimise the risk of falls.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Inflammageing: chronic inflammation in ageing, cardiovascular disease, and frailty. (Pubmed Central) - Aug 30, 2019
The hypothesis that inflammation affects CVD, multimorbidity, and frailty by inhibiting growth factors, increasing catabolism, and interfering with homeostatic signalling is supported by mechanistic studies but requires confirmation in humans. Whether early modulation of inflammageing prevents or delays the onset of cardiovascular frailty should be tested in clinical trials.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: Prevalence and associated risk factors for osteoporosis in Korean men. (Pubmed Central) - Aug 30, 2019
Low socioeconomic status, unhealthy lifestyle, insufficient nutrition, and chronic kidney disease increased the risk of osteoporosis in Korean men. Men who have the abovementioned risk factors even at a young age need to undergo bone mineral density evaluation, and proper interventions should be reinforced to prevent and manage osteoporosis.
- |||||||||| Biomarker, Review, Journal: The Biological Foundations of Sarcopenia: Established and Promising Markers. (Pubmed Central) - Aug 29, 2019
Interestingly, mice studies have shown that SNAP25 affects the neuromuscular function. SNARE complex and, in particular, SNAP25 may represent a promising pathway to explore the molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating muscular homeostasis and concur at profiling the sarcopenia biological background.
- |||||||||| Journal: Development of Pharmacotherapies for the Treatment of Sarcopenia. (Pubmed Central) - Aug 27, 2019
We provide a review of the leading programs and approaches and available findings from recent studies. In addition, we briefly discuss several related issues needed to facilitate the development of a safe and efficacious pharmacotherapeutic that could be used as part of a treatment plan for older men and women with sarcopenia.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Variables Influencing the Effectiveness of Creatine Supplementation as a Therapeutic Intervention for Sarcopenia. (Pubmed Central) - Aug 27, 2019
However, research is inconsistent regarding the effectiveness of creatine on aging muscle. The purpose of this perspective paper is to: (1) propose possible reasons for the inconsistent responsiveness to creatine in aging adults, (2) discuss the potential mechanistic actions of creatine on muscle biology, (3) determine whether the timing of creatine supplementation influences aging muscle, (4) evaluate the evidence investigating the effects of creatine with other compounds (protein, conjugated linoleic acid) in aging adults, and (5) provide insight regarding the safety of creatine for aging adults.
- |||||||||| Care strategies for nutritional care of dementia cases in hospital () - Aug 27, 2019 - Abstract #AEC2019AEC_656;
Nutrition problems of most cases were protein-energy inadequate, and difficulty to swallowing was the second nutritional diagnosis. So, we designed additional strategies for further care, include of 1) increase calories density from diet; 2) designed thick liquid diet for dysphagia population; 3) supplied habitual foods and board games about foods for patients and their caregivers.in group activities weekly for modified eating environment.

- |||||||||| Role of Parkin in the pathogenesis of COPD-related sarcopenia (TP-07) - Aug 26, 2019 - Abstract #ERS2019ERS_4274;
It was more common in patients with severe symptoms, emphysematous phenotype and low FEV1. These results suggest that Parkin-mediated mitophagy may have a regulatory role in myogenesis during CS exposure as a part of sarcopenia pathogenesis in COPD.
