- |||||||||| Journal: How much frailty is important in cardiology? (Pubmed Central) - Dec 20, 2019
Therefore, physicians should be aware that age by itself is probably not the best criterion to rely on for challenging clinical decision-making in this setting. In this clinical context, it becomes mandatory that, beyond age-based decisions or an "eyeballing" perception of "frailty" or "vulnerability", standardized and valid measures aimed at selecting those patients who may potentially derive the greatest benefit from medical or interventional procedures are made available for daily clinical use.
- |||||||||| Journal: Tetra-linoleoyl cardiolipin depletion plays a major role in the pathogenesis of sarcopenia. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 20, 2019
Together, these findings from the literature prompt the hypothesis that depletion of the cardiolipin (18:2) species may be at the root of mitochondrial dysfunction with aging, in turn leading to sarcopenia. Corroboration of the tetra-linoleoyl cardiolipin depletion hypothesis suggests new leads for the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia by enhancing the biosynthesis, accretion, and integrity of tetra-linoleoyl cardiolipin.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: Sarcopenia as a potential cause of chronic hyponatremia in the elderly. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 20, 2019
Since muscle mass is the main potassium body store, this condition usually represents a reduced body potassium content. In the present article it is hypothesized that sarcopenia, as a cause of low potassium body content, could induce or co-induce hyponatremia, particularly in elderly individuals suffering from frailty phenotype.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Frailty, Cognitive Decline, Neurodegenerative Diseases and Nutrition Interventions. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 20, 2019
Additionally, nutritional factors that may influence vascular risk factors will potentially have an effect on dementia decline among patients with cognitive frailty. This review aims to describe the nutritional factors that have been researched so far which may lead to the development of frailty, and especially cognitive decline.

However, the basic studies explaining the effects of vitamin K on muscular tissue are limited. Further research on vitamin K will clarify new biological mechanisms which contribute to human longevity and health through the prevention and treatment of aging-related musculoskeletal disorders.

- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: Resistance Training for Older Adults: Position Statement From the National Strength and Conditioning Association. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 19, 2019
This Position Statement provides evidence to support recommendations for successful resistance training in older adults related to 4 parts: (a) program design variables, (b) physiological adaptations, (c) functional benefits, and (d) considerations for frailty, sarcopenia, and other chronic conditions. The goal of this Position Statement is to a) help foster a more unified and holistic approach to resistance training for older adults, b) promote the health and functional benefits of resistance training for older adults, and c) prevent or minimize fears and other barriers to implementation of resistance training programs for older adults.

Similar results were obtained with relative HGS (OR, 0.40; 95% CI, 0.36-0.45; P<0.0001), but standard HGS had better model fitting (quasi-likelihood under independence model criteria=33,890). HGS may be considered an index for the diagnosis of sarcopenia and may also affect self-rated health, which is a multidimensional indicator of an individual's health status and can identify patients who may require special attention.

- |||||||||| Transcriptional Networks and Epigenomic Mechanisms Regulating human Mesenchymal Stem Cell Differentiation (Room 153) - Dec 14, 2019 - Abstract #ENDO2020ENDO_689;
We show that dynamic enhancer-enhancerinteractions play a key role in regulation of enhancer function, and that highlyconnected enhancers are important for both signal integration andcompartmentalization of the genome. Lineage-selective genes are associated withhighly connected enhancer communities, and in response to differentiation cues,these communities are further activated, leading to looping of additionalenhancers into the 3-D hubs as well as increased looping to promoters.

Sarcopenia and frailty also contribute to the risk of fall and fracture. Finally, nutrition is another important factor in such patients, especially in the setting of weight loss and nutritional deficiencies such as hypovitaminosis D. Treating osteoporosis in this population often involves measures beyond traditional osteoporosis medications.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Frailty Screening in Chronic Kidney Disease: Current Perspectives. (Pubmed Central) - Dec 13, 2019
This review highlights the value of frailty screening in CKD by summarizing the outcomes associated with frailty and exploring proposed changes to the management of frail patients with CKD. Finally, we will propose a framework for how to implement frailty screening into standard nephrology care.
