- |||||||||| Clinical, Review, Journal: Evaluation and Management of Osteoporosis and Sarcopenia in Patients with Distal Radius Fractures. (Pubmed Central) - Jul 19, 2020
Since DRFs typically occur earlier than vertebral or hip fractures, they reflect early changes of the bone and muscle frailty and provide physicians with an opportunity to prevent progression of frailty and secondary fractures. In this review, we will discuss the concept of DRFs as a medical condition that is at the start of the fragility fracture cascade, recent advances in the diagnosis of bone fragility including emerging importance of cortical porosity, fracture healing with osteoporosis medications, and recent progress in research on sarcopenia in patients with DRFs.

The present study is the first to assess the association between cervical paraspinal muscle Goutalier grade and patient-reported outcomes following ACDF. Based on our study, patients with worse cervical paraspinal degeneration may benefit from improved symptom relief in comparison to patients with a lesser degree of degeneration undergoing ACDF.

Histone modification status (acetylation at K9 and K27 and tri-methylation at K9) was positively associated with relative gastrocnemius muscle weight, the percentage of type IIb myosin heavy chain isoform, myosin heavy chain type IIb protein expression, and the level of Myh4 mRNA. Thus, global histone H3 methylation and acetylation decrease with age, and the latter might be associated with age-related muscle atrophy of rat gastrocnemius muscle.

The following review presents an in-depth discussion of body composition analysis and its potential role in the care of pediatric solid tumor patients. Integration of body tissue measurement into standard practice has broad clinical implications and may improve quality of life and treatment outcomes in this at-risk population.

Clinical, Review, Journal: Where does TIPS fit in the management of patients with cirrhosis? (Pubmed Central) - Jul 17, 2020 In patients with PVT, TIPS placement not only controls complications of portal hypertension, but also promotes portal vein recanalisation. Although the severity of portal hypertension correlates with poor outcomes after extrahepatic surgery, there is no evidence to recommend preoperative TIPS placement.
