Increased focus on nutritional deficiency syndromes in heart failure has led to the use of established markers of malnutrition as well as the identification of novel biomarkers in the management of these patients, though to date, their usage has been confined to the academic domain and further research is required to establish their role in the clinical setting.

This review: (1) explore traditional and newly emerging cardiometabolic risk factors in older people; (2) investigate methods of prediction and prevention of cardiovascular disease in those with diabetes; and (3) concludes that the development of a subspeciality of Cardiometabolic Medicine should be considered.

Cells expressing CD68, CD11b, and CD206 simultaneously were the most frequently observed cell type, which raises the possibility that pure pro- and anti-inflammatory macrophages populations do not exist in healthy human skeletal muscle within the spectrum of tissue remodeling induced by physiological exercise designed to induce hypertrophy. Together these data provide insight into the time course of macrophage activity and associated molecular targets in human skeletal muscle in the context of aging and exercise.
