  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Commentary: Euthyroid Sick Syndrome in Patients With COVID-19. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 17, 2021
    Our findings suggest that PS + ET improves muscle mass, muscle strength, and functional outcomes and reduces pain in older adults with lower-limb OA, particularly in those who have undergone total joint replacement. No abstract available
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Pharmacological targeting of age-related changes in skeletal muscle tissue. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 16, 2021
    However, other treatment options are still scarce. In this review, we explore currently applied nutritional and pharmacological approaches to mitigate age- related muscle wasting, and discuss potential future therapeutic avenues.
  • ||||||||||  Enrollment open, Trial completion date, Trial primary completion date:  Sarcopenia in Older Patients in the Acute Hospital Setting (clinicaltrials.gov) -  Mar 16, 2021
    P=N/A,  N=50, Recruiting,
    In this review, we explore currently applied nutritional and pharmacological approaches to mitigate age- related muscle wasting, and discuss potential future therapeutic avenues. Not yet recruiting --> Recruiting | Trial completion date: Jun 2022 --> Jun 2023 | Trial primary completion date: Dec 2021 --> Dec 2022
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Vitamin D Inhibits Myogenic Cell Fusion and Expression of Fusogenic Genes. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 16, 2021
    Elderly individuals face a higher risk of falling and suffering fractures; hence, administration of vitamin D for treating fractures in the elderly could actually promote fusion impairment and, consequently, severe defects in muscle regeneration. Therefore, our results suggest that vitamin D replacement therapy should be used for prevention of age-related muscle loss, rather than for treatment of sarcopenia.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Review, Journal:  Impact of Protein Intake in Older Adults with Sarcopenia and Obesity: A Gut Microbiota Perspective. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 16, 2021
    This could counteract the development of sarcopenia and obesity and, therefore, represent a novel approach for dietary recommendations based on the gut microbiota profile. However, more human trials utilizing advanced metabolomic techniques to investigate the microbiome and its relationship with macronutrient intake, especially protein, are warranted.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Author's reply. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 16, 2021

  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Oral Management in Rehabilitation Medicine: Oral Frailty, Oral Sarcopenia, and Hospital-Associated Oral Problems. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 16, 2021
    Oral health management provided by dental hygienists improves not only oral status and function, swallowing function, and nutritional status but also activities of daily living, discharge home, and in-hospital mortality in post-acute rehabilitation. Oral rehabilitation, promotion, education, and medical-dental collaboration can be effective interventions for oral problems and therefore are necessary to improve rehabilitation outcomes.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Validation of the Danish SARC-F in Hospitalized, Geriatric Medical Patients. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 16, 2021
    SARC-F does not seem to be a suitable screening tool for identifying and excluding non-sarcopenic geriatric patients. Furthermore, the SARC-F score was more strongly correlated with reduced muscle strength and physical function than with low muscle mass.
  • ||||||||||  Clinical, Journal:  Reply to "Letter to the Editor: Sarcopenia in Pediatrics? To be reconsidered…". (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 16, 2021
    We would like to thank Razaq et al for their comments regarding our manuscript titled "Sarcopenia in Children with End Stage Liver Disease on the Transplant Waiting list". We appreciate their comments regarding the application of sarcopenia in children.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Sarcopenia in older people with chronic airway diseases: the Rotterdam study. (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 16, 2021
    Sarcopenia was prevalent and associated with chronic airway diseases among older population. These results suggest the need for early diagnosis of sarcopenia in older people with chronic airway diseases by applying EWGSOP2 recommendations.
  • ||||||||||  [VIRTUAL] EFFECTS OF SARCOPENIA ON POST-ENDOSCOPIC RETROGRADE CHOLANGIOPANCREATOGRAPHY ADVERSE EVENTS IN PATIENTS WITH BILIARY TRACT CANCER (DDW Virtual) -  Mar 15, 2021 - Abstract #DDW2021DDW_2806;
    Multivariate logistic analysis showed that sarcopenia was a significant risk factor for post-ERCP adverse events (odds ratio [OR], 4.64, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.23–17.4, p = 0.02). We used propensity score matching for further analysis owing to a significant intergroup difference in patients’ Background: s. After matching, both groups included 59 patients, and no significant difference was observed in patients’ Background: s. Multivariate logistic analysis confirmed that sarcopenia was a significant risk factor for post-ERCP adverse events (OR 5.98, 95% CI 1.23–29.1, p = 0.03).ConclusionsSarcopenia in patients with biliary tract cancer could suggest a high risk of post-ERCP adverse events.
