Specifically, here we focused on the level set methodology and compared the performances of two standard approaches, a classical evolution model and a three-dimension geodesic model, with the performances of an original first-order modification of this latter one. The results of this analysis show that these gradient-based schemes guarantee reliability with respect to manual segmentation and that the first-order scheme requires a computational burden that is significantly smaller than the one needed by the second-order approach.

Hence, adjunctive and alternative treatments to improve quality of life are needed. An internationally agreed approach to definition and diagnosis will enable a step change in the field and is likely to be available in the near future through the Global Leadership Initiative in Sarcopenia.

Preclinical, Journal: Inhibition of EZH2 Reduces Aging-Related Decline in Interstitial Cells of Cajal of the Mouse Stomach. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 21, 2024 An internationally agreed approach to definition and diagnosis will enable a step change in the field and is likely to be available in the near future through the Global Leadership Initiative in Sarcopenia. Inhibition of EZH2 with EPZ6438 mitigates aging-related ICC/ICC-SC loss and gastric motor dysfunction, improving slow wave activity and food intake in klotho mice.
- |||||||||| Journal: Sequencing technology in sarcopenia: current research progress and future trends. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 20, 2024
This is the first bibliometric and visual analysis of published research in the field of muscular dystrophy through systematic data retrieval and combined with a variety of bibliometric analysis tools. Through these data, we summarize the previous studies of scholars, and provide prospects for future research in the field.

Previous studies have suggested involvement of low BMI and sarcopenia in the pathogenesis of COPD-associated osteoporosis. In this narrative review, we will propose critical roles of vitamin D deficiency and inflammation, both of which are often present in COPD and may underlie the development of osteosarcopenia and impaired bone quality, ultimately causing fractures in COPD patients.

Journal: Incretin-Based Weight Loss Pharmacotherapy: Can Resistance Exercise Optimize Changes in Body Composition? (Pubmed Central) - Sep 20, 2024 Retaining lean mass during incretin therapy could blunt body weight (and fat) regain on cessation of weight loss pharmacotherapy. We propose that tailored resistance exercise training be recommended as an adjunct to incretin therapy to optimize changes in body composition by preserving lean mass while achieving fat loss.

Therefore, comprehensive management of these musculoskeletal disorders is imperative. This review summarizes the clinical implications and characteristics of osteoporosis, extending to sarcopenia and osteosarcopenia, in patients with CLD caused by different etiologies.

Moreover, the involvement of extracellular vesicles from bone or muscle as communication tools in the interactions between muscle and bone was recently proposed. Further clinical studies are needed to clarify the significance of myokine regulation under physiological and pathophysiological states in humans.

This comprehensive nomogram presented high clinical predictability, which was a promising tool to evaluate the risk of sarcopenia in patients with diabetes. There was a causal relationship between 27 lipid metabolites and sarcopenia traits, and targeting specific lipid metabolites may benefit sarcopenia diagnosis, disease assessment, and treatment.
- |||||||||| Examining the Role of Protein Intake on Skeletal Muscle Mass in Postmenopausal Women (Riverside East, Riverside West/South) - Sep 19, 2024 - Abstract #NAMS2024NAMS_181;
These findings suggest that changes in substrate metabolism, particularly protein oxidation, may impact SM retention in postmenopausal women. While increased PRO may be beneficial for body composition changes such as lower %BF and FM, it does not appear to be enough to compensate for increased PRO oxidation, which may lead to the involuntary loss of SM (e.g.
- |||||||||| Bone Health (Grand Ballroom) - Sep 19, 2024 - Abstract #NAMS2024NAMS_75;
Those with both osteoporosis/osteopenia AND sarcopenia appear to be most at risk of severe disability. In order to decrease severe disability and need for institutional care, a more proactive, lifelong plan for musculoskeletal health needs to start prior to menopause and needs to be thoughtfully developed.
