Review, Journal: Nutraceuticals for the treatment of sarcopenia in chronic liver disease. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 26, 2021 Nutraceuticals offer a promising and likely safe adjunct to standard care for sarcopenia in cirrhosis. While there is most evidence to support the use of BCAA and l-carnitine supplementation, further well-designed clinical trials are needed to elucidate their efficacy as a therapy for muscle loss in this population.

Clinical, Journal: Muscle Mass and Direct Oral Anticoagulant Activity in Older Adults With Atrial Fibrillation. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 25, 2021 Our proof-of-concept study has identified an association between ALM and DOAC levels in older adults with AF. Further research is needed to determine the impact of ALM on bleeding complications and the potential role of ALM-guided dosing for sarcopenic patients.

We then evaluate new evidence relating particularly to the effects of frailty and sarcopenia, the clinical difficulties of age-associated comorbidities, and the implications for existing guidelines and therapeutic options. Our conclusions will focus on the effect of T2DM on an ageing society.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Review, Journal: The Utility of Body Composition Assessment in Nutrition and Clinical Practice: An Overview of Current Methodology. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 25, 2021
Though weight tracking and calculation of BMI are used commonly by clinicians and dietitians, these measures do not provide insight on the relative contributions of fat mass and fat-free mass or the changes in these compartments that may reflect disease risk. Therefore, it is important that healthcare professionals have a critical understanding of body composition assessment and the strengths and limitations of the methods available.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Diverse Roles of Cellular Senescence in Skeletal Muscle Inflammation, Regeneration, and Therapeutics. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 24, 2021
We also discuss how senescence of muscle stem cells and muscle-resident fibro-adipogenic progenitors affects muscle pathologies or regeneration, and consider the possibility that immunosenescence leads to muscle pathogenesis. Finally, we explore senotherapy, the therapeutic targeting of senescence to treat age-related disease, from the standpoint of improving muscle regeneration.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Advances in research on pharmacotherapy of sarcopenia. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 24, 2021
Clinical trials of new drugs targeting multiple molecules are ongoing. This article focuses on the latest progress in pharmacotherapeutic approaches of sarcopenia in recent years by comprehensively reviewing the clinical outcomes of the existing and emerging pharmacotherapies as well as the molecular mechanisms underlying their therapeutic benefits and side effects.
- |||||||||| [VIRTUAL] Fam210a Maintains Cardiac Mitochondrial Homeostasis by Promoting Ca2+ Efflux (ePosters) - Sep 24, 2021 - Abstract #AHA2021AHA_1291;
Our evidence suggests that FAM210A is a novel mitochondrial Ca2+ efflux regulator required for maintaining cardiac mitochondrial homeostasis and offers new targets for treating mitochondrial disease. This work uncovers important interplay among mitochondrial Ca2+ signaling, metabolic reprogramming, and translational control in cardiac health and disease.

• Virtual non-contrast-enhanced dual-energy CT HU values allow to differentiate between high and low native skeletal muscle mean radiation attenuation in contrast-enhanced DECT scans. • Measuring muscle fat by dual-energy computed tomography is a new approach for the determination of muscle quality, an important parameter for the diagnostic confirmation of sarcopenia as a comorbidity associated with poor clinical outcome.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Review, Journal: Pathogenesis of Musculoskeletal Deficits in Children and Adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. (Pubmed Central) - Sep 24, 2021
In paediatric IBD, these factors may contribute to suboptimal bone and muscle accrual. This review evaluates the main pathogenic factors associated with musculoskeletal deficits in children and adults with IBD and summarises the current literature and understanding of the musculoskeletal phenotype in these patients.
- |||||||||| CAN WE PREDICT INCISIONAL HERNIA AFTER KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION? () - Sep 23, 2021 - Abstract #ESOT2021ESOT_1903;
This review evaluates the main pathogenic factors associated with musculoskeletal deficits in children and adults with IBD and summarises the current literature and understanding of the musculoskeletal phenotype in these patients. By using a set of clinical predictors including age at KT, time in RRT, gender and SMRA, we believe the risk of IH can be predicted with much higher accuracy than any currently available IH tool.
