    Preclinical, Journal:  Long-term effects of the chronic administration of doxorubicin on aged skeletal muscle: An exploratory study in mice. (Pubmed Central) -  Oct 5, 2024   
    Systemic inflammation, skeletal muscle energy metabolism and neuromuscular junction-related markers do not appear to be involved in the long-term DOX-induced skeletal muscle atrophy. The data provided by this study shed light on the mediators involved in the overlooked long-term DOX-induced myotoxicity, paving the way to the improvement of the quality of life and survival rates of older cancer patients.

    Sarcopenia was observed to be an independent risk factor for rebleeding within 1 year. Future research needs to be defined to develop evidence-based exercise guidance to provide optimal benefit for CKD using exercise interventions as adjuvant therapy for CKD-related complications such as anaemia and CKD-MBD.

This review provides an up-to-date overview of these non-invasive tests and the limitations of liver biopsy in the management of patients with MAFLD.

    After performance evaluation and sensitivity analysis, the XGBoost-based model was determined to be the best model with better discriminative performance, clinical utility, and robustness. The XGBoost-based model in this study has excellent performance, and the online web calculator based on it can easily and quickly predict the risk of LBM to aid in the diagnosis of sarcopenia in adults over the age of 60.

    While animal studies indicate vitamin D's effectiveness in muscle growth, cross-sectional, observational, and intervention studies do not show clear benefits of maintaining efficient vitamin D levels on muscle mass or function in humans. Although vitamin D impacts muscle health, it is insufficient alone, emphasizing the need for a multifaceted approach to sarcopenia prevention and management.

    Alterations in MU properties, axonal damage, an altered innervation profile and NMJ instability are prominent features of the ageing of the neuromuscular system.     I was interested to read the article by Quadrelli et al. on a study on the prevention of sarcopenia using daily "Home Gym Bed" training for 30 minutes per day over 10 years in a 70-year-old man who was examined using 3D CT imaging.1 It was found that muscle mass did not change over the 10 years despite ageing.1 It was concluded that whole-body exercise in bed can help preserve muscle mass and density in older people,1 and that advanced imaging techniques can quantify the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions against sarcopenia.1 The study is excellent, but some points should be discussed.[...].
