- |||||||||| Clinical, Review, Journal: A Review of the Effects of Collagen Treatment in Clinical Studies. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 29, 2021
The comorbidity of these diseases might be closely related to collagen deficiency, and collagen treatment might be a good choice when a patient has more than one of these diseases, including the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It concludes that collagen-based medication is useful in treating comorbid diseases and preventing complications.
- |||||||||| PREOPERATIVE SARCOPENIA IS ASSOCIATED WITH LOCAL TUMOR RECURRENCE BUT NOT WOUND COMPLICATIONS FOLLOWING SACRAL TUMOR RESECTION ([VIRTUAL]) - Nov 26, 2021 - Abstract #CTOS2021CTOS_259;
Contrary to previous studies which highlighted an association between sarcopenia and postoperative wound complications, in the current study sarcopenia was not predictive of wound complications, infection or reoperation following sacral tumor resection. Sarcopenia was however an independent risk factor for local tumor recurrence following sacrectomy, and as such should be considered when counseling patients on the outcome of sacral tumor resection.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: The correlation of dietary patterns with low muscle mass, strength and quality in adults from 10 regions of China (Pubmed Central) - Nov 25, 2021
And those who scored higher on the rice-meat dietary pattern had lower risk of low muscle mass and strength (OR=0.67, 95%CI: 0.55-0.82 for low ASMI; OR=0.69, 95%CI: 0.56-0.85 for low TSMI; OR=0.74, 95%CI: 0.60-0.91 for low handgrip strength; for trend P<0.05). Individuals followed the balanced dietary pattern, as well as those who followed the rice-meat dietary pattern, had better levels of skeletal muscle mass, strength and quality.
- |||||||||| Retrospective data, Review, Journal: Sleep duration and sarcopenia risk: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 25, 2021
The outcomes from this meta-analysis indicate that the public should be made aware of the negative consequences of long and short sleep for sarcopenia especially among women. Further studies should now be undertaken to establish possible links between risk of sarcopenia and sleep duration.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Review, Journal: Development of Sarcopenia in Patients With Bladder Cancer: A Systematic Review. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 24, 2021
The development of sarcopenia is important to understand because of its negative affect on quality of life, complications, and mortality. Further, understanding how sarcopenia develops during treatment could potentially strengthen nurses' future care plans for patients with bladder cancer.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: A simpler screening tool for sarcopenia in surgical patients. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 24, 2021
Sarcopenia screening can be performed using a simple tool. The combination of low muscle strength and/or abnormal physical performance, plus malnutrition/risk of malnutrition, has the highest screening performance.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: SARC-F and the Risk of Falling in Middle-Aged and Older Community-Dwelling Postmenopausal Women. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 24, 2021
In addition, a SARC-F cutoff of 1.50 (83.33% sensitivity and 59.13% specificity) and 3.50 (44.44% sensitivity and 89.26% specificity) were shown to be able to discriminate participants at risk of falling according to the FES-I and the ABC-16, respectively. (4) our results show that SARC-F is an independent predictor of the risk of falling among middle-aged and older community-dwelling postmenopausal women.

- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: Correlation between L3 skeletal muscle index and prognosis of patients with stage IV gastric cancer. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 21, 2021
The average survival time of participants with sarcopenia syndrome (16.78 months) was significantly lower than that of those without sarcopenia syndrome (25.58 months) (P<0.05). There is a significant correlation between L3 SMI and survival time, and L3 SMI can be used as a potential index to evaluate the prognosis of patients with stage IV GC.
- |||||||||| Journal: Association among the Prevalence of Sarcopenia without Obesity, Nonsarcopenic Obesity, Sarcopenic Obesity, and Metabolic Syndrome in Cancer Survivors: Based on Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 21, 2021
In this study, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 25.3%, 61.7%, and 67.3% in the sarcopenia without obesity, nonsarcopenic obesity, and sarcopenic obesity groups, respectively, showing that the sarcopenic obesity group had the highest metabolic syndrome rate. Based on these results, various education programs for the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome should be developed for cancer patients.
- |||||||||| Journal: The Effect of Posture on Maximum Grip Strength Measurements. (Pubmed Central) - Nov 21, 2021
The findings reveal that grip strength measured while standing with the elbow fully extended is greater than that measured while sitting, which is the posture currently recommended in clinical practice. Clinicians and researchers should choose the appropriate and optimal postures to measure grip strength.
