  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Sarcopenia-a (Pubmed Central) -  Mar 2, 2023
    For diagnostic criteria, physical parameters (muscle mass measurement) and functional aspects (muscle strength, gait speed, physical performance) are required. In routine clinical care, screening patients using the SARC?F questionnaire is recommended by recent guidelines of the European Workgroup for Sarcopenia.
  • ||||||||||  Trial completion date, Trial primary completion date:  Evaluation of Sarcopenia-Related Malnutrition in Older Adults (clinicaltrials.gov) -  Mar 2, 2023

    Elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying these associations may provide novel targets for developing interventions that maintain brain health and metabolic homeostasis in old age. Trial completion date: Oct 2022 --> May 2023 | Trial primary completion date: Oct 2022 --> May 2023
  • ||||||||||  Trial completion, Trial completion date:  Feasibility and Impact of Resistance Training for Sarcopenic Dysphagia (clinicaltrials.gov) -  Mar 2, 2023

    Trial completion date: Oct 2022 --> May 2023 | Trial primary completion date: Oct 2022 --> May 2023 Recruiting --> Completed | Trial completion date: Aug 2023 --> Feb 2023
  • ||||||||||  Observational data, Journal:  Menopause hormone therapy and sarcodynapenia: the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 27, 2023
    Menopause hormone therapy for 5 years or less is associated with a lower prevalence of sarcodynapenia among physically active women and with a higher prevalence of sarcodynapenia in those less active. Strategies to promote an active lifestyle in all postmenopausal women, including MHT users, are needed to attain benefits for musculoskeletal health.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Normative cutoffs of muscle mass, muscle strength, and frailty for healthy Indian population. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 27, 2023
    In addition, twelve weeks of resistance exercise training results in type II muscle fiber specific hypertrophy but does not affect fiber type grouping. We derived gender-specific cutoffs for SMI, HGS, CSUT, and LFI from healthy adult Indian population, which can be used to detect sarcopenia and frailty among patients with liver diseases, as well as other conditions.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Muscle Health Patterns and Brain MRI Indices: A Cluster Analysis. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 27, 2023
    Clinicians should raise awareness on the brain MRI findings in clinical settings. Because these patients mostly had central nervous system conditions or other critical illnesses, the risk of sarcopenia as a comorbidity will substantially affect the prognosis and medical care.

    There has also been a recent emergence in randomized studies evaluating the use of ?-3 fatty acids, amino acids, and immunonutrition. Meta-analyses have reported favorable outcomes for these supplements, though individual studies are small and with significant methodological limitations and risk of bias, emphasizing the need for high-quality randomized studies to guide clinical practice.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Nutritional Problems Related to Oropharyngeal and Esophageal Changes in Aging: A Narrative Review. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 27, 2023
    Our increasing knowledge on this subject will contribute to healthcare professionals in the prevention and treatment of health problems such as malnutrition that may occur during the aging process. In this review, a literature search was conducted with the keywords "older" or "elderly" or "geriatrics" and "nutrition" or "malnutrition" and "oropharyngeal functions" or "esophageal functions" in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar electronic databases.KEY TEACHING POINTSSome changes may occur in oropharyngeal and esophageal functions with aging.Sensory and physiological changes in the aging process affect oral food intake and nutritional status.Impairments in oral food intake in elderly individuals can lead to malnutrition and sarcopenia.Age-related changes affecting oral food intake increase the importance of nutritionists with the increase in the elderly population.

  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Musculoskeletal exercise: Its role in promoting health and longevity. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 26, 2023
    Accordingly, health providers should screen for PI, lack of RT, and mobility risks using short screening questions, and employ simple functional tests, when indicated, to evaluate patients for impairment in gait, muscle strength, flexibility, and balance. This review also provides general principles for initiating and conducting RT and provides general and specific examples of resistance training programs, which should be individualized for patients through the evaluation and guidance by appropriate health providers, physical therapists, and certified trainers.

  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  Aging, Physical Exercise, Telomeres, and Sarcopenia: A Narrative Review. (Pubmed Central) -  Feb 26, 2023
    Higher levels of physical activity are associated with an apparent increase in telomere length. This review aims to present the current state of the art of knowledge on the effect of physical exercise on telomeric maintenance and activation of repair mechanisms in sarcopenia.
