    We evaluate in detail the anti-obesity medications currently licenced in Europe, with emphasis on the available efficacy, safety and cardiovascular outcome data gathered from study of older people. Finally, we discuss future directions and avenues of research.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Sonography of muscles : Rheumatology-Neurology-Geriatrics-Sports medicine-Orthopedics (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 3, 2024
    Sonography can ideally be used in addition to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnostics of myositis as it can speed up the diagnosis, muscle groups that were not imaged by MRI can also be assessed sonographically and all muscle groups can be examined during the course of the procedure. Sonography also helps to make a
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Activation of the apelin/APJ system by vitamin D attenuates age-related muscle atrophy. (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 2, 2024
    In cirrhotic patients with sarcopenia, an improvement in skeletal muscle and fat mass was observed after PSAE; splenic infarction rate and the L3 SMI before PSAE predicted an improvement in skeletal muscle index in patients with sarcopenia after PSAE. Our present data indicate that vitamin D3 supplementation ameliorates aging-induced muscle atrophy and senescence, similar to the effects of exercise, suggesting the positive impact of vitamin D as an intervention strategy to prevent aging-induced metabolic diseases.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  Deciphering Osteosarcopenia through the hallmarks of aging. (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 2, 2024
    The hallmarks of aging provide a theoretical and practical framework that allows for the structured organization of current knowledge and the planning of new development lines. This article comprehensively reviews the currently available literature on the role of the Hallmarks of Aging in the development of osteosarcopenia, thereby offering a panoramic view of the state of the art and knowledge gaps in this field.
  • ||||||||||  Journal:  The role of mitochondria in cytokine and chemokine signalling during ageing. (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 2, 2024
    In addition, we focus on the dynamic relationship between mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular senescence and its role in regulating the secretion of pro-inflammatory molecules by senescent cells. Finally, we review the existing literature regarding mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation in specific age-related pathological conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), osteoarthritis and sarcopenia.
  • ||||||||||  Review, Journal:  The dichotomic role of cytokines in aging. (Pubmed Central) -  Dec 2, 2024
    In addition, it is discussed the role of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and other cytokines that affect aging in a more linear way, such as IL-11, which promotes senescence, and IL-4 and IL-15, which promotes longevity. It is also discussed more specific regulators of aging that are downstream cytokines-mediated signaling.
