- |||||||||| Journal: Example of monitoring measurements in a virtual eye clinic using 'big data'. (Pubmed Central) - Apr 3, 2019
Using 'big data' collected in the standard glaucoma care service, we found that patients attending a GMS have equivalent outcomes on the VF test. Our findings provide support for the implementation of virtual healthcare delivery in the hospital eye service.
- |||||||||| Journal: Ocular findings in Loeys-Dietz syndrome. (Pubmed Central) - Apr 3, 2019
Ectopia lentis may be slightly more common than in controls but appears less common than in Marfan syndrome. Hypertelorism, scleral and retinal vascular abnormalities were not features of LDS.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Retrospective data: Frequency of a diagnosis of glaucoma in individuals who consume coffee, tea and/or soft drinks. (Pubmed Central) - Apr 3, 2019
No significant associations were found between the consumption of coffee, iced tea, decaffeinated tea and soft drinks, and glaucoma risk. This study is limited by its cross-sectional design and use of multiple statistical testing, and larger prospective studies are needed to investigate the proposed association between tea consumption and decreased glaucoma risk.
- |||||||||| Journal: Trabectome-Initiated Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy. (Pubmed Central) - Apr 3, 2019
Initiating the transluminal trabeculotomy with trabectome clearly exposes Schlemm's canal and facilitates threading the microcatheter into the canal. Additionally, if the 360-degree trabeculotomy cannot be completed because of an incompletely patent Schlemm's canal, the patient will at least have a trabectome ablation that can serve as their glaucoma surgery.
- |||||||||| Journal: Stent-assisted Coil Embolization for a Ruptured Posterior Communicating Artery Pseudoaneurysm after Endoscopic Trans-sphenoidal Surgery for Pituitary Adenoma. (Pubmed Central) - Apr 3, 2019
Hence, neuroscience offers new insights to better understand vision loss, and modulating brain and vascular function is a promising source for new opportunities to activate residual vision to achieve restoration and recovery to improve quality of live in patients suffering from vision loss. Two-staged stent-assisted coil embolization using a low-profile visualized intraluminal stent was effective for a posterior communicating artery pseudoaneurysm occurring after posterior communicating artery injury following endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery for follicle-stimulating hormone-producing pituitary adenoma.

Journal: Inflammasome Activation Induces Pyroptosis in the Retina Exposed to Ocular Hypertension Injury. (Pubmed Central) - Apr 2, 2019 ...The OHT-induced release of cytokines and RGC death were significantly decreased in the retinas of Casp1Casp4(11), Panx1 and in Wild-type (WT) mice treated with the Panx1 inhibitor probenecid...Furthermore, they indicate an active contribution of neuronal NLRP1/NLRP3 inflammasomes and the pro-pyroptotic gasdermin D pathway to pathophysiology of the OHT injury. These results support the feasibility of inflammasome modulation for neuroprotection in OHT-injured retinas.
- |||||||||| Journal: Tuning of thermoresponsive pNIPAAm hydrogels for the topical retention of controlled release ocular therapeutics. (Pubmed Central) - Apr 2, 2019
A reduction of the gel LCST, faster gelation kinetics, and suitable viscosity for the administration as an eye drop were successfully achieved through modification of the poly(ethylene glycol) content in the water phase and its molecular weight. Our data suggest that drug release is not affected by these changes, with representative drug concentration profiles of the previous and new formulations demonstrating comparable anti-glaucoma release kinetics.
- |||||||||| Clinical, Journal: Wound-Healing Markers Revealed by Proximity Extension Assay in Tears of Patients following Glaucoma Surgery. (Pubmed Central) - Mar 30, 2019
Patients with or without complications were tested, and proteins that have roles in the immune response and wound healing could be observed with altered frequency and amounts in the cases of patients with complications. Our results highlight the importance of inflammation in wound-healing complications, and at the same time, indicate the utility of PEA in tear analysis.

Also, the detected mutation in the case group was significantly higher in exon 1 and 3 (15.7% versus 0%, P-value = 0.001, and 11.5% versus 2.8%, P-value = 0.049, respectively). Based on the result of the current study, it seems that the MYOC gene polymorphisms increased the risk of POAG in the Iranian population.

- |||||||||| Review, Journal: What have we learned about exfoliation syndrome since its discovery by John Lindberg 100 years ago? (Pubmed Central) - Mar 29, 2019
Since the discovery of XFS 100 years ago by Dr John G. Lindberg, there has been considerable advancement in understanding its pathogenesis and resulting clinical implications. The purpose of this paper is to summarise information regarding the epidemiology, pathophysiology, ocular manifestations and systemic associations of XFS with the objective of sharing clinical pearls to assist in early detection and enhanced management of patients.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Surgical adhesives in ophthalmology: history and current trends. (Pubmed Central) - Mar 29, 2019
Through MEDLINE and internet searches, this paper presents a systematic review of the current applications of surgical adhesives to corneal, glaucoma, retinal, cataract and strabismus surgeries. Our review suggests that surgical adhesives have promise to reduce problems in current ophthalmic surgical procedures.

- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Epigenetics in Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). (Pubmed Central) - Mar 29, 2019
Several authors have recently shown the influence of epigenetic factors in the pathogenesis of ocular diseases such as cataract, dry eye, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and more recently AMD. A better understanding of the involvement of genetic variants at risk, their relationship with epigenetics and environmental factors would certainly help to better assess the risk of developing AMD or better understand recent changes in the incidence of the disease.
- |||||||||| Preclinical, Journal: An in vitro study of scarring formation mediated by human Tenon fibroblasts: Effect of Y-27632, a Rho kinase inhibitor. (Pubmed Central) - Mar 29, 2019
The aim of our study was to elucidate the effect of Y-27632 on scarring formation after glaucoma filtration surgery, in direct comparison with other antiglaucoma drugs. Our findings thus suggested that Y-27632 may inhibit fibrosis and improve outcome after glaucoma filtration surgery through inhibition of transdifferentiation of Tenon fibroblasts into myofibroblasts, and the TGF-β and MAPK signalling after surgery, while latanoprost and timolol may induce fibrosis.
- |||||||||| Journal: Visual Analysis of Retinal OCT Data (Pubmed Central) - Mar 29, 2019
We demonstrate the utility of our approach by applying it to data of a study with pediatric patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 1. Our results show that visual-interactive methods indeed help to analyze subtle retinal changes and, thus, support the diagnosis of diseases in an early stage.
- |||||||||| Journal: Effect of the Age-Related Corneal Elasticity on Applanation Tonometry (Pubmed Central) - Mar 29, 2019
In many cases, the conventionally measured IOP may be precise enough, but the uncertainty in IOP determination due to CCT and EM influence are almost in the same range. Measuring the IOP using applanation methods with established correction formulas should not be overestimated without to respect the EM of the cornea.
