Patients undergoing this procedure should therefore be warned of the likelihood of requiring further intervention, and a repeat antimetabolite-augmented trabeculectomy or glaucoma tube shunt surgery in the first instance can be considered instead. No abstract available

Many age-related retinal diseases, including glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration, have been associated with mitochondrial dysfunction. Therefore, mitochondria are a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of retinal disease.
- |||||||||| Review, Journal: Review of the association between retinal microvascular characteristics and eye disease. (Pubmed Central) - May 15, 2019
Increasingly sophisticated imaging and analysis techniques have the potential to provide relevant clinical information regarding disease risk and progression; however, further studies are required to verify associations and strengthen the predictive power of these techniques. We summarise the current state of knowledge regarding retinal microvascular characteristics and eye disease.

Contrary to what may be expected from such a severe ocular comorbidity, our data suggest that the mean BCVA improvement after cataract surgery in patients with non-glaucomatous optic neuropathies was comparable to that of control patients. Cataract surgery may be performed in patients with both optic neuropathies and advanced cataracts with a reasonable preoperative expectation that visual acuity improvement can be significant.

No clear pattern in efficacy and affinity for CA isoenzymes could be discerned from the results, although Compound 5, with a low affinity for all isoenzymes except the human (h) CA isoform IV, had the greatest potency, with the lowest EC and inducing the most rapid and profound dilation of the vessels. The results suggest that more than one isozyme of CA is involved in mediating its role in controlling vascular tone in retinal arteries, with a probable crucial role played by the membrane-bound isoform CA IV.

OMG and MSGG transplantation is a viable alternative to replace conjunctiva and restore the ocular surface. The donor site is readily accessible and widely available in most patients, grafting is fast and cheap, and the same site may undergo repeated harvesting with few donor site complications.

Clinical, Journal: Efficacy and Safety of Intravaginal Misoprostol for Mid-trimester Medical Termination of Pregnancy. (Pubmed Central) - May 13, 2019 ...The outcome variables were induction of delivery time, number of doses within 48 hours, result of induction, surgical evacuation, bleeding after induction, requirement of blood transfusion and Dinoprostone gel; side effect & complication of misoprostol were recorded...Out of all respondents 90.0% had average and 10.0% had more than average bleeding. For termination of pregnancy 200μg of intravasinat misoprostol are safe and effective in mid-trimester.

Proper use of toy guns and protective eyewear during the whole game should be emphasized to both players and bystanders. We recommend that in Finland the selling of airsoft guns be placed under the Firearms Act to make the hazards of airsoft guns known.

Significant increase in corneal curvature and central corneal thickness along with, decrease in intraocular pressure occur during successive trimesters of pregnancy. All pregnant women should have routine ocular examination; changes noted, if any, should receive attention and period of gestation should be considered prior to making a diagnosis.

Clinical, Journal: Extracellular MMP-9-Based Assessment of Ocular Surface Inflammation in Patients with Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma. (Pubmed Central) - May 12, 2019 ...Of those treated with prostaglandin eye drops, 30 received a preservative-free formulation (tafluprost) and 30 were treated with a formulation containing the preservative benzalkonium chloride (BAK) (latanoprost)...Measurement of ocular surface MMP-9 level provides a useful marker for inflammation and DED in POAG. Use of a preservative-free topical prostaglandin formulation results in lower levels of ocular inflammation, compared with BAK-containing medication.
